I am after advice, tips... and thing that will help!

I have a black pat and whenever I wash it I'm left with about 6 separate DRIPS!! and they really show up and leave terrible water marks!

I'm sure you all have the same problems (?) they come from under the wing mirrors, the rear side windows, the plastic strips on the doors and about 3 or 4 under the rear number plate!

At the mo I hose the car down, then wash it, hose it again then shammey it the spend 15 mins running all round the car trying to catch the drips before they leave water marks! I've even tried rolling up paper towels and wedging it in the gaps where possible!!

A guy told me to wash it then go for a fast drive and it will all come out.... which it did but left water stains all over the car!!!

AARRGGHH It drives me insane.... so if you have any tips on how to stop it or hope it not be so bad I'd be soooooooooo grateful

Thanks

Tan

that's the consequence of poor fit and finish of plastic molded parts

After washing and drying, I go over the Jeep with a "quick detail" spray and a soft cloth to take care of any water spots left behind. Leaves my Jeep nice and shiny.

Having soft water in my home, I have plumbed a hose fitting in the garage so that I can wash the cars with soft water--no water marks!

I've never heard of a 'quick detail spray' I should look out for that.. who makes it? hmmm and can I get it in the UK?

Thanks

Several companies actually. Basically, if they make car wax/polish or clay bar's, they may make the quick detail. I use "Meguiars". I think I have seen "Mothers" as well. Not sure if these are available to you though. To prevent water spots, dry with a chamois. If none available, dry with a microfiber cloth (wringing it out frequently). Once done, go over the vehicle with a dry microfiber cloth a last time. When drying, I was told to dry in this order:

1) Horizontal surfaces
2) Glass surfaces (sunny side first)
3) Vertical surfaces (sunny side first)

If you are in a shaded area and vehicle's body is cool to the touch, then step 2 & 3 is of no real concern in terms of where you start.

I use Meguiar's quick detail spray. But there are quite a few other brands out there.

Even between washings, I'll dust off the Jeep then go over all the surfaces with the spray. Shines it right back up.

I spent two hours last weekend washing my Patriot and Hubby's Durango. then on Thursday, we had a freak storm blow through that dropped enough rain to leave yellow beads all over the cars from the rain and pollen mixture. I went out Saturday and dusted the cars off, then hit them both with the quick detail spray and a microfibre cloth. Almost as good as a fresh wash.

OK thanks I'll look out for that!

I've got the microfiber cloths and they are great I must say, and try to do as you've said. I just wish it would drip for 15 mins or so cos it makes it an endless job.

But if i can get hold of the quick detail, I'll let it drip then deal with it afterwards!

Thank you!

Tan !! Over here in UK you could try Turtle wax Ice or Demon Shine. They are not real wax polishes , just formulated for instant shine & easy to use!!

I'll look out for that then! sounds like great stuff!

We've had loads of really 'dusty rain' latley the car just keeps getting full of it!! Even better if I can just dust it off and use that instead of washing it very week!

Thanks Hun!

Nope that has nothing todo with fit and finish. Every car has some hidden parts where water drops out after washing.

My suggestion is very easy but usefull.

After washing wait 2-3 hours or make a short drive and then use a spraybottle and spray clean water on the water marks. Dry it with a clean pieth of cloth and it´s gone. should be done in less than one minute.

Works 100percent.

not sure what you are smoking...but it certainly does have to do with poor fit and finish. of course water draining out from the hood area and trunk area have nothing to do with that as those areas are meant to drain out, but are you to tell me that water collecting behind the exterior door trim panels is a good thing? the plastic trim should not only be permanently attached on the door panel, but a permanent adhesive or cement layer should be added to further the seal and create water resistant mating surfaces.

i'm a mechanical engineer. i deal with this stuff on a day to day basis. you don't want spaces where water can collect. you think it all drains out, but you could be very wrong and the water could collect underneath, mold could start growing, and they can penetrate the fasteners holding the trim into the door panel and make their way to the interior of your door panel.
