My wife's jeep started leaking this spring, the rear passenger floor board on the drivers side was soaked. Glad I read this, now I'm gonna check the drivers door seals, hopfully it was just ice and (dirt?) from allowing the door to shut completly to make a good seal.

No leaks until last summer, and that happened only once. We have a rear liner so all the water collected in that. It may have been that some pine needles in the gasket, but who really knows.
We have just had 18" of rain this month in SoFLA and not a drop.
Still love this rig, got to drive it friday, wife had a convention, and got it up to over 90 MPH :wow:for a short stretch of I-95. Don't try that with AT tires!

Had my first leak last week. We had a couple days of heavy rain. I talked with the Service Manager, he told me it's probably the Seam Sealer around the roof sheet metel. They had a Pat a while back with the same issue, had to involve the factory engineers. Appointment set for a week from Tuesday.

I'll post back if it fixes it. It's funny, the Pat's coming up on it's 1st Birthday, and now this appears. It's been a good 24k miles.

2009 Patriot Leaks

My less than 2 months old 2009 Jeep Patriot leaks from the dome light near the rear hatch. Anyone else have this same problem? Went to dealer, they have no clue or so they say. They want to start tearing it apart looking for the source...I don't want that to happen as things do not always go back as they should. I do not have a sunroof. Did not have this problem until I washed the Jeep myself. It has been through the car wash...no leaks. After the dome light was wiped dry, no more problem. How could water get in there? It has been raining here, but has rained before and no problems.

No leaks so far hope to stay that way! Been raining almost every day for two weeks now and still dry inside!

MY leak problem and solution

Hello all,

WOW sorry for the novel! Scroll to the last few paragraphs find out my cause and solution,

This is my first time post. I have found this site very helpful with dealing with my water leak. Thank you everyone who has posted on this subject. So I think I should tell everyone what my water problems were ant its solution.

Back story,

I have a 08 patriot no sun roof. Just celebrated 1 year anniversary.

So for a number of months dating back to last fall ('08) I thought I was imagining the occasional drip in the hatch area. I brushed of the water in the back as just moisture from opening the hatch. So this spring water leak has gotten much worse. Finding the dome light full of water then roof liner wet around dome light.(winter may have contributed causing the problem to get worse). Same crap were all complaining about. Sent it to dealer twice, they say they have fixed it. But the leak keeps getting worse. Heavier the rain fall heavier the leak.

Dealer gets third of looking at it and send me to the local body shop. ( my dealer doesn't have its own). This is actually good for them and me. For the because the body shop charges $55 an hour in stead of the$98 /hr at the dealer. For me cause the body shop tells me they see various roof leaks all types of vehicles foreign and domestic.

So body shop tells me they think they see several problems with the weld around the hatch/ hinges/ that plug thing and the O ring around the washer fluid hose that our good body constructed the Hoover dam around on his pat. (Nice job by the way encouraged me to do my own investigating.)

Ok so Body shop lends me a car for the day(bonus) and sands down the weld and re weld / seals everything and repaints everything. Great job I'm so Happy. Take it home. THAT NIGHT THE WORST STORM YET! I so excited in the am to got look at my nice and dry cargo area.

WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I find almost 2 liters of water in the cargo liner(so glad I have that).

So I start thinking of the Hoover dam and start my own investigation with the garden hose. and locking my twelve year old in the back with instructions the scream if she starts to drown from the leaky roof.:pepper:

So I start by soaking the rear gate for a good 10 minutes nothing from the child.

I slowly clue in that my driveway is on an incline and that perhaps should try soaking near the front of the roof which is higher.

Slowly working my way back to the front trying to spray small areas at a time. Finally get to the front of the roof rack and the jeep starts rocking back and forth. Bingo.

I opened the back to find my child dripped on but with her head above water.

So it turns out that water on my pat was leaking in through the roof rack seals. slowly making its way back to the rear dome light thanks to the incline.
No I haven't put anything on the roof rack.
Dealer sends me straight to the body shop.
Body shop removes and reseals the roof racks. Glad to say after several rain falls and hose test I'm still nice and dry.

I love my INFERNO RED Jeep Patriot

Had my first leak today. We had a heavy t-storm last night and i got in my pat this morning and front dome lights were leaking like crazy. Spilling out. I called my dealer, not a fan of the service manager, i told him of the problem and also that i read on the internet of many people having this problem, he let out a sarcastic laugh and said "the drainage isn't good on patriots. They get clogged up and in heavy storms they tend to leak". He said it as if it is normal for a brand new $25,000 car to leak all the time.

He then said they can't take my Pat in for a full week. It is supposed to rain and t-storm here all week so i guess i have to hope it doesn't leak again.. When i bring it in I am telling the service manager that if they can't fix the problem right the first time, i am starting the lemon law. No way am I bringing it 30+ mins to the dealer after every t storm, nor should I have to.

Mine is an '08 with almost 21k and has no leaks. I have tested it with a pressure hose to make sure -- including the sunroof, all four doors, rear hatch, and the base of the windshield. There is a rubber gasket at the base of the windshield that has come loose and I reattached it, but it does not appear to do anything but provide some extra sound insulation.

I also have had a leak problem from the back dome light area and had both of the cables/hoses on the top, just inside the back hatch, filled over with a type of silicon sealant. This kept it from leaking from out of the cloth portion around the rear dome light, but then it started leaking from the actual dome light itself. We had another big rain yesterday and it looks like it's actually coming in from the temperature sensor on the top, that's right above the dome light, on the outside. I plan on taking it to the dealership this week to see about getting it fixed. Anyone else have it leaking in from that area, too?

tbandab, that is horrible, feel so sorry for you. gl on your lemon law claim.

To all new patriot owners: (expect this eventually, these aren't even horrible pictures, i have seen worse, but just didn't bother to take pictures of it when my cabin was being flooded)

when you take out the cd, it is wet on both sides, i don't think this is a good thing...

this was after the fact, when most of it had already drained out onto the dash, but its still evidence indeed.

Damn, every time it rains, I go looking for leaks. This issue has got my attention. It's pretty sad that about 1/3 of the responses to this poll have responded YES to one kind of leak or another. Is this the best Chrysler/Jeep can do?
If mine starts leaking, I'll get it fixed and fixed and fixed, and then it's time for the Lemon Law (3 strikes, Jeep's OUT...)
