Hey SouthernINpat welcome to the forum! I've been Reading a lot into wheels and tires here lately and I think you will need both a lift and a good bit of trimming as well as some new wheels with a different offset. I know thats not much help so hopefully someone else will chime in with more knowledge.

None the less, welcome!

A 255/70R17 will not fit, even with trimming, you'll start rubbing on the metal of the inner fenders at the very least. Also, these tires will be very heavy and the increase in diameter will make them harder to turn, thus putting strain on the drivetrain and will ultimately hinder the drivability of the Patriot.

One member, with the biggest lift made for a Patriot (The RRO Kit), and 1.25" wheel spacers said that he was barely able to fit 245/65R17 tires. In the size that you are wanting, you will rub pretty much everywhere in the wheel wells and maybe even on the strut itself.

I'm running 225/75R16 on a 16x8 rim with a 0 offset and it just barely fits without rubbing all over the place.

Hope all of this helps.
