Hey guys! So I've had my pat in the shop at the dealership for an extended crank issue a few times. Every so often, it'll take me multiple attempts to get the car started. The dealer says it could be the fuel pump, but they won't do anything about it cuz its "not bad enough." Even though it's a 2014 and under full warranty. They also said that there was another pat there the same day for the same issue... I was wondering if anybody else has had this extended crank/no start issue and if you were able to fix it?

I have had an extended crank issue a few times but it always has caught itself at some point and started. I've never had it fail to start. I was planning on mentioning it when I go into the dealer next time I have a chance. I'll let you know what my outcome is.

Yah, let me know what they say. It's really an odd thing.

I probably should! If nothing gets done with it in the next year, I'll take it elsewhere. I told the dealership that if I ever get stuck somewhere because of this issue, they better be there with a rental car and a tow truck within an hour. Haha. I'm sure they would too

Me too!!

I bought my Patriot in December and it has been nothing but problems since. I am also having the extended crank, and a electrical light comes on the dash during the event. I am having a ticking from the engine, the transmission is acting up, the lights flicker, the radio volume changes on its own and I hate it haha. Has anyone else had any of these other issues?

If they are not willing to help you can always call the Jeep Cares hotline (your dealer has it) and see if they can get the dealer to do something for you. I had to do that myself, and it worked wonders...even though my dealer claimed that my problem is normal and there was nothing they could do about it.

Not sure if this works. I have had an extended crank time a few times, now when I get ready to start my patriot I turn the key to the run position listen to the fuel pump build pressure and stop then I start her up

I also have a 2014 with starting issues among other things wrong. Dealer hooked it up to the computer and said they didnt find any codes so they didnt know what else to do. Previoulsy i had a complete no start while i was at the dealership and they had to push it into service. That time it was something in the ignition that had to be replaced(1300 miles) I am working with Chrysler customer care at this point but i am to the point where i would like my brand new jeep to act like a new vehicle. I am done trying to bring it in every other week and have requested the chrysler that the vehicle be replaced. I dont think it will but i guess i will see where it goes.

I have a 2014 and I have the same issue with mine. My local dealer ship has said that there is nothing they can so until it won't start at all. I also have low voltage when I go to start my car all the time and they said there is nothing they can do for that ether

Hello #1 welder,

Sorry to hear about your recent experience with your Patriot. Have you taken your vehicle to a second FCA certified dealership for diagnosis? If you would like me to look further into this for you, please private message me your VIN and contact information.

this ^^

i always turn the key to "on" for a short interval before switching to "crank"
I start 5-8 different cars a day at my work, so I do this every time because every vehicle is different and I don't want to crank a starter longer than necessary. I believe that it allows the fuel pump a head-start so-to-speak

I experience "extended crank" every 200 starts or so (82,000 on my 2012) but it has always started.
Hey mainejohn,

TSB 18-017-12 may relate to your vehicle:

SUBJECT:
Flash: Long Crank Times When Temperatures Between 0 Degrees F and 50 Degrees F
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves selectively erasing and reprogramming the Powertrain Control
Module (PCM) with new software.
MODELS:
2011 - 2012 (MK) Compass /Patriot
2011 - 2012 (PM) Caliber
NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicle equipped with a 2.0L engine (sales code ECN)
and a automatic transmission (sales code DAW or DAV) built before May 17,
2012 (MDH 0517XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may experience a long crank time when temperatures are between o° F
(-17° C) and 50° F (10° C) after and 8 hour soak time.
In order to correct this condition the PCM calibration has been changed to add cranking
spark and reduce the start fueling.
Updating the software will correct the conditions listed above.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

My wife's 2015 Patriot has done the extended crank a few times over the past month. It did it to me yesterday. I was in a rush so I hopped in and immediately tried to start it.

I'm used to turning my key to "on" for 2-3 seconds and then trying to start the car from my SRT. It has a huge fuel pump and return line, so it needs to prime. I do this with all my vehicles. The one time I forget on her Jeep, extended crank time!

Great habit to get into. I taught my wife this and when she complains, I ask her if she "did the key dance". It's always a no when the long crank occurs.

Jeep is going in for routine care this week. I'll bring it up to my dealer and see what he says.
