I did the chime disable that I found here and it worked. No need to cut or do anything permanent. Just make sure you let the belt retract all the way when doing it.

If I drive on the beach here I just clip the seatbelt and then sit in the car.

Seatbelt just doesn't feel right when cruising along the beach.

You don't even have to go through all that, here's what I do. Pull the seat belt out about 8-10 inches,if you look at the dash you'll see when seat belt light goes out. Just put a gator clip on the seat belt it self holding it retracted 8-10 inches. If you need to put it on, just take the gator clip off and your good to go. No more annoying chimes on short runs. (you will be clipping the retracted part of the belt to the non retracted part of the belt) to hold it in place.
This is on a 2014 model, may not work on all models. I leave mine clipped all the time except when on longer drives I buckle up. But remember...CLICK IT OR TICKET...

On the 2014 model why not just disable the chime? That is what we did because I see no reason in putting my belt on in our driveway, and the thing would be setting off the chime after a few hundred feet!

How do you disable it? Its annoying when there is even a bunch of stuff on the passenger seat as well and the chime is going nuts (hey Jeep inanimate objects are not passengers) :)

First, you have to wave at three Wranglers. Then on a full moon you must engage 4x4, and sacrifice a chicken while dancing nude around your yard. After which you tug on the seat-belt thrice, and the deed will be done!

Or you could go with the method from the manual (stolen from another thread in the forum, but this did it for me and it says it is from the 2008 manual):

Enhanced Driver Seat Belt Reminder System (BeltAlert) If the driver’s seat belt has not been buckled within 60 seconds of starting the vehicle and if the vehicle speed is greater than 5 mph (8 km/h), the Enhanced Warning System (BeltAlert) will alert the driver to buckle their seat belt. The driver should also instruct all other occupants to buckle their seat belts. Once the warning is triggered, the Enhanced Warning System (BeltAlert) will continue to chime and flash the Seat Belt Warning Light for 96 seconds or until the driver’s seat belt is buckled. The Enhanced Warning System (BeltAlert) will be reactivated if the driver’s seat belt is unbuckled for more than 10 seconds and the vehicle speed is greater than 5 mph (8 km/h).

The Enhanced Warning System (BeltAlert) can be enabled or disabled by your authorized dealer or by following these steps:

NOTE: The following steps must occur within the first 60 seconds of the ignition switch being turned to the ON or START position. DaimlerChrysler Corporation does not recommend deactivating the Enhanced Warning System (BeltAlert).

1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position and buckle the driver or front passenger seat belt.

2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and wait for the Seat Belt Warning Light to turn off.

3. Within 60 seconds of turning the ignition switch to the ON position, unbuckle and then re-buckle the driver or front passenger seat belt at least three times within 10 seconds, ending with the seat belt buckled.

NOTE: Watch for the Seat Belt Warning Light to turn on while unbuckling and off while re-buckling the seat belt. It may be necessary to retract the seat belt.

4. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position. A single chime will sound to signify that you have successfully completed the programming.

The Enhanced Warning System (BeltAlert) can be reactivated by repeating this procedure.

NOTE: Although the Enhanced Warning System (BeltAlert) has been deactivated, the Seat Belt Warning Light will continue to illuminate while the driver or front passenger seat belt remains unbuckled.

The light still blinks, but it is the chime that drives me crazy. I never did remove the damned speaker from my Tiburon that chimed when the keys were in, and the door was open. :D

Nice I'll give it a try, I can deal with the light as stated but that chime!

I disco'd the Tiburons speaker years ago - was easy BTW.

The chime is there to remind you that you are doing something ILLEGAL, ya know. Seat belts and airbags are designed to work in unison. One can easily kill you if the other isn't used. And I don't know about newer models, but mine never dings for weight on the passenger seat. If you're driving in the yard, just pull the belt down a bit and clip it down or something. Otherwise, like Lew said, click it or ticket. $65 in Michigan, SREJECT says it's $25 in Nevada, not sure about other states.

Thanks, Mom.

If you guys must drive without a seatbelt, please make sure it's legal in your area, or you are only doing it off of public roads. Airbags can do more damage if you do NOT have a seatbelt on. They are designed to work with a safety restraint, not without.
