New factory outlet installed in panel below shifter. I purchased the part from a local Jeep dealer so that it would match the original.

New aftermarket outlet installed in package tray above glove box. I didn't care what this one looked like other than having a cap to hide the outlet when not in use. The black color blends in also.

Both new outlets are wired to the battery to be always on. GPS working with ignition off. Original outlet is still wired to be switched with the ignition.

14 gauge wire entering the engine compartment through the washer hose grommet. I removed the grommet, drilled a small hole in the side taking care not to puncture the washer hose, pushed the wire through the hole, and reinstalled the grommet.

Back side of lower panel with new outlet added.
Thanks to nearly.normal.jimmy, jepstr67, and Mak001 for their previous posts that assisted me in this project. It would have taken me much longer without your help. I think I can now take out the console and all of the panels below the radio housing in about 5 minutes.:pepper:

You are pure genius... I am going to do the same tomorrow!

Looks great! I modified my original to be on all the time--just took a piggy-back fuse on the trailer light fuse to make it happen. And my GPS is hard wired to work with the ign.

But again, a nice, well documneted mod!

Terrific job. Well executed. I'd love to do that myself (many extra wires), but I won't. The laziness factor just wins out everytime.
Are you channeling my husband? :p
