Alright so im brand new to mods and heres what i want. I currently am looking to make my jeep a mascot for a car group here in virginia and since i cant really keep up with their speed... I want to beat them in loud.

I dont want to rattle my jeep apart and i still want decently clear sound. What im currently looking at is 2 12" dual voice coil BOSS phantom subwoofers. What im wondering is how is this going to sound in the open area of a jeep patriot. I'm going to be having a custom box built so thats not a problem. If anyone has any suggestions thatll fit an E3's paycheck in the military please let me know.

you bought a jeep with mostly snap-together interior... you ARE going to rattle with subs. there's no way around it. specifically the hatch latch-mechanism. it's consisted of loose plastic parts riveted together, so it rattles. The muffler heat shield is another rattle area. Some sound deadening does help, but not much. As for the sound, just make sure to subs are at a slight angle pointing towards the rear window. Gives you the best sound. If you are getting a box made, make sure it accommodates the reclining rear seats if you have those. BTW, you may want to wait more than 9 minutes before bumping a post. It's a forum, not Facebook lol.

That being said, if you still want clarity, without all the rattle, Creation had a custom 8" enclosure in the factory sub area with an 8" sub that had bigger magnets than the cone itself... I forget the brand but the model was an Epic 8

He might be able to give you some info on how that works compared to standard 12's in a box like he used to run.

youre in portsmouth? im in norfolk and ive got two rockford fosgate 12's and a fosgate amp ill sell you for fairly cheap. new in box i might add. thought they were 10's i was wrong.... ive got a box for some 12s too but its in decent shape. boss subs wont last long...

I'm definitely late on this but it doesn't seem like the thread really went anywhere. wondering what you ended up doing? if you haven't done anything yet, i will give you my advice.

1- you say you don't want to rattle your car apart.... but you want to run dual DVC 12" subs... that to me sounds like a guy who wants to rattle their car apart... lol

2- you can get great volume and great sound quality out of a properly built smaller enclosure and sub in a vehicle like this. its a small enough interior that you don't need a large box and sub to fill it with sound. a very simple and non permanent solution could be as simple as a Bazooka tube. they are relatively small, do not draw much power, and put out good volume for the price. since they are ported, they bass is not very accurate and not as tight as it could be, so this is better suited to music like rap/r&b/dance/house/electronic type music. if you are into music mainly in the rock/country/pop genres, you would probably appreciate the sound of a sealed enclosure better, and that means you can save even more space.

i ran a single alpine DVC 10" type R in a sealed enclosure in a vehicle with similar interior design/size (kia soul 5 door) and it took up very little room, hit hard, was super accurate, and plenty loud. then i started getting into dubstep and house music, and went with a triple alpine DVC 10" setup ported using the same amp, alpine MRP-500 (500 watt mono block amp) that setup (the triple) was so damn loud in that car that nobody ever wanted to ride with me, including the wife and kids.... but it was space efficient since i built it into the spare tire well, i still had full use of my interior, still didn't draw much power since i was still using the small amp, and had enough boom to notify neighborhoods 7 counties away that i was traveling their direction...

IF you are serious about wanting more sound but don't want to rattle things apart, stay away from the dual 12" DVC setup. you will lose most of your interior, and thats WAAAAAY too much cone surface and power usage for just adding some kick... lol. go with an 8" or a 10", probably just one, based on your original post.

Those mrp-500 amps are awesome for what they are. I had 2 of those each running a 10" type s. Awesome little setup but wasn't enough for my old car. I then sold those and upgraded to 2-12" type x and a alpine 2400w rms amp. I wonder how that system is gonna sound in the patriot when it finally gets installed.

Biggest system I've ever owned, plan to do speakers w/amp so the bass doesn't over power the speakers too. I've heard one 12" type x in a pathfinder before and I thought that was loud. This will also be the first vehicle that I apply sound deadening.

Still need to plan a custom box since the box I have is too wide for the patriot. If anyone could help with that would be amazing.

I had a silverado for awhile with two 12" JL audio subs and a 1500w amp and that was louder than my buddy who spent a kagillion $$$ on his setup, a box done right will go a very long way.. Ive heard a guy with an 8" at my school that has only that and it sounds so crisp clear and clean and beat the crap out of my two 12s.( i think he had the Epic 8 with a special custom box and 1000w amp) so you dont have to break the bank on a system. As for wiring and stuff i have know clue. Also, like these guys have said before, the Pat is a rattle can, im still bolting things down and tweeking things to not rattle. (Biggest rattle is my rear plate, cannot for the life of me get that to stop rattling....) anyways i know its a late response but theres my .02, you can get away cheap if you do it right.

get rid of the rear plate rattle by putting large window insulation behind it. the tape-kind you get at walmart or home depot. You will also notice your back wiper, and the plastics that house the rear latch/lock also rattle. Removing my hatch trim helped a lot too, but with 2 15's, I will never be rattle free lol. my roof does waves.

I have yet to try that, i have tried double sided tape, does it work anything like that?
