Where to buy breaks and rotors

I got over 115K Mi on my 2008 Pat and now I need to change breaks for 2nd time.

I was wondering what brand and quality I should look into for parts.

My friend who owns a BMW told me to get OEM parts, they were about 1.5 - 2x more expensive than after market parts.

What brands have you used in past and how much do you trust them?

on side, I think I also need to change my alternator belt, and what brand should I get?

I buy the more expensive ones at autozone, have always been happy with them. This goes for my performance vehicles as well.

It depends where you live. You might check Napa Auto Parts. I purchase parts from Napa often.

I usually buy Bendix pads on RockAuto.com.

Top of the line Autozone pads with the lifetime warranty are decent too.

I like Bendix since most of their products seem to be made in the USA.

This is where I always get my brakes. Besides you cant beat a lifetime warranty even if you only change them twice, it's worth it. My Blazer and Honda are full of lifetime parts from Autozone.

I've always lived within a mile and a half of an autozone, so I can ride my bike there if I'm in that much need, makes life easier.

Can't beat lifetime warranty on autozone pads I got the cheap ones but I've heard the top of the line ones are good. The mid range ones aren't worth it. 2 year warranty on rotors too.

Bring in the old used/worn out ones get new ones free. You can usually buy a set replace them and bring the old ones back for a refund as well.

Why doesn't Autozone loose money?

Most people only own their vehicles for an average of 2-5 years, many new vehicles having a 5 year warranty. Brake pads have an average (normal use) life of 2-3 years. The math has shown that most people will not have the same vehicle before the brakes wear out again, so the store has a slim chance of needing to fulfill a warranty. Also, the warranty is usually provided by the manufacturer, not the distributor. When you return your worn or faulty breaks, the store is then refunded by the manufacturer for the total cost of warranty replacements. And on that note, the cost of manufacturing the breaks vs the price they are sold to the distributor at offsets the costs of the low percentage of warranty replacements they end up fulfilling. Most industry today is that way, the products being manufactured for pennies on the dollar, so most manufacturers can afford some losses in product replacements. Hope this answers your question!

I usually go with ceramic pads, they aren't any more expensive usually and in my case seem to last just as long.

The only 2 in stock options at my autozone were $20 asbestos pads or $40 ceramic pads.

I had bad luck with Autozones Duralast ceramics, beware.

Rotors I have always got from eBay for well over a decade now with no issues and the best price. I always make sure to get a good ceramic - PosiQuiet Ceramics are the brand I used the last 2 times with great success and they are inexpensive and you can find em anywhere.

If you live SoCa,OC i have a really good auto shop Ill send you too. Great guys, real honest, just had them do my pats breaks, all four rotors new boots and equipment. Except pads. Then they also did my Grand Cherokee too.

Lol BMW owners always think their cars have special parts (I once had a customer tell me his BMW had special paint only available from BMW) and OEM is better. Most mechanical parts aren't even made by the OEM. They're made by someone else and contractually provided to the OEM.

On my last car I got the better (they have either cheap or better options) rotors and ceramic pads from Pep Boys. I had no issues whatsoever.
