but I thought a forum is only for help each other??? Isn´t it?
This forum is about a lot of things. You posted about something that many of us are passionate about. I tried to point out to you that even though I don't know you I care enough about your safety to say that not wearing a seatbelt was dangerous. Your response was to call some of us names. I said it before and I'll bore you with my palaver again - if you don't like how people respond then reply in a mature fashion but don't start with the name calling and insults. You get a lot further when you don't act like someone who has no better way to express disagreement other than being peevish. You have shown your true colors so although your screen name may be nothing but style, from this point you are nothing but ignored. BTW, that means you can call me names and insult me to your hearts content but I won't have to read anything you ever post again. What a relief!

funny how everyone will prech safety in here and then leave replies on how to dissable your tpms(tire pressure monitoring system) because "the noise and light is annoying". They made the tpms mandatory(legally) in CA and Im sure most other states for your safety as well. Just thought it was funny and wanted to point it out

My owner's manual tells how to turn it off.
something like have the key on, but engine not running, insert and eject a few consecutive times and it stops it.
not sure if you manual has this detailed

That stupid seat belt chime is perhaps the most aggravating part of the Patriot. Did they really have no one on the design team who has ever lived in a colder climate? First starting the vehicle and then scraping ice from the windows is a pretty normal order in which to do things when it's cold enough. Or, if you happen to be a self-defense oriented person, the whole idea of tying yourself down into the seat before the vehicle is even capable of moving can feel fairly ridiculous too. There are about a bazillion other reasons why you might want to start the engine without immediately strapping in, too - did none of these ever cross the little minds of the people who decided that this stupid chime was a good idea?

I can understand the chime that goes off when you actually drive the Jeep without a seat belt. But the one that goes off the second the engine starts, if the driver is not already buckled up before turning the key? AAAAAAARRRRRRGGGHHHHH!!!! And of course, the jackasses decide that while the while-driving chime can be disabled, the dumbass chime that goes off while the Jeep is still stationary, can't. BLOOD! THIS JACKASSERY MUST BE PAID WITH BLOOD!

(And yes, I do wear my seat belt while driving, so people with holier-than-thou attitudes can just skip their preaching, thank you very much.)

Hey guys, I am not talking about highways I am talking about trafic jam

For the life of me, wheres the issue? Does it crumple youir new chiffon dress your going to wear to the prom? Do you chip a nail putting them on and off? Are you that obese that they cut into your huge rolls of cellulite????
For the life of me....WHATS THE BIG FRIGGIN DEAL IN WEARING THEM? Either than your freedom being taking away (give me a friggin break) that you will never get back, whats the issue??

It saves on installing a seat weight sensor that simply activates/deactivates the seat belt chime, therefore keeping the price of your vehicle as low as possible. They probably thought that people have a tendency of turning on their vehicle and in as short a time frame as possible jump in, strap up and drive off. BUT, living in the tropics myself, I wouldn't have thought of the ice/snow on the windshield thingy. That is a good point. I bet the engineer who worked this area of the design was Puertorican...

Hmmm... last I heard seat belts were the LAW. That annoying chime is the manufacturers way of saying "Oh Mr. Judge, as the vehicles manufacturer we do install a reminder chime in every vehicle to insure that our valued customers buckle up. Why should we be guilty of negligence because John Doe decided not to buckle up, shot out of the windshield during his accident because he had no seat belt and die? We reminded him with our annoying little chime." It's also their way of saying to you, the consumer, that they want you to live so you can buy more cars in the future. The chime is annoying, yes, there is a way to deactivate it and I will say how here. It's really easy...

Buckle the frag up! Guaranteed to eliminate the chime each and every time. I have had a boss of mine in the past get in my car and not buckle up. I wouldn't move the car. He said "Let's go!" and I said not until he buckled up. He got all pissy on me but buckled up. I simply said that I needed him to perform my next evaluation... plus he wouldn't pay my $100 ticket if I got stopped.

10 mins. later we were hit. His seat was torn loose from its attachment points. What saved him and kept him in a relatively safe position and not fly all over the cabin was his belt.

A month later his wife called me to thank me and that the ex-boss of mine, as of that time on, always wore his belt. Anyone wanna learn the hard way, go ahead. You have a 50-50 chance of making it. Personally, I prefer the 80-20 or 90-10 chance of making it by using a seat belt... but don't say it's a choice. It's not. It's the law. I would really really like to continue to enjoy you being around the forums to joke around and trade experiences.

Dear all here the instructions to disable the buzzer not the light in the dashboard.
1. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position and
buckle the driver or front passenger seat belt.
2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and wait
for the Seat Belt Warning Light to turn off.
3. Within 60 seconds of turning the ignition switch to the
ON position, unbuckle and then re-buckle the driver or
front passenger seat belt at least three times within 10
seconds, ending with the seat belt buckled.
NOTE: Watch for the Seat Belt Warning Light to turn on
while unbuckling and off while re-buckling the seat belt.
It may be necessary to retract the seat belt.
4. Turn the ignition switch to the LOCK position. A
single chime will sound to signify that you have successfully
completed the programming.
The Enhanced Warning System (BeltAlert) can be reactivated
by repeating this procedure.
NOTE: Although the Enhanced Warning System
(BeltAlert) has been deactivated, the Seat Belt Warning
Light will continue to illuminate while the driver or front
passenger seat belt remains unbuckled

enjoy

The instructions works just fine for my Patriot too, and also for the 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I wonder if it does the same for the 2007 Chrysler 300 C.

By the way, does anyone know how to disable the red light for fasten seatbelts? :lockd: (just kidding)

See, that's the problem with freedom. Or rather, it's price. If you want to live free, you need to tolerate the fact that others live free too - and they might make choices you disagree with.

Of course, the usual reaction to this is to slowly build an Orwellian society where everything is monitored, banned, controlled, regulated. One little bit at a time. Smoking ban, forced use of seatbelts, kitchen knife ban, forced use of government approved nutrition centers only... "It's for your own good, comrade." And everytime someone utters that dreadful phrase "why, it ought to be illegal to..." we get closer to living in that kind of society. :(

Freedom

I have read through this thread and I feel that we lost something. However we may disagree with nothing but style's choice. He asked a simple question about his desire to not hear a warning chime. He deserves an answer, thank you hogar and whoever else anwsered it. I have always felt that freedom is the abillity to make choices as long as those choices don't infringe on others freedom. If the choice is incorrect then let him suffer the consequences. Call it natural selection or God's will, he has the same opportunity as the rest of us to choose.
This is a forum of good and compassionate people. Who don't deserve to be called names because of differing opinions. We should do our best to air our concerns after we have answered the question, and let him make the choice.
That is the price of freedom.

P.S. Seatbelts are always a good idea but it's your right to choose and accept the consequences either way.

I always wear my seatblet, but I turned the dinger off today. Its great, i can drive through the parking lot and not have it annoy the crap out of me when i am going 5 mph. Thanks for whoever posted how to get rid of it.

300c

It works fine for the 300c too.
I think that driving a scooter in a city like Bucharest is way more dangerous, and no seatbelt is available. Now how can you tell me that wearing ALL THE TIME seatbelt in my jeep is for my own safety?

A seat belt saved my life when I wrecked my old MR2. That telephone pole was hard! Safety first man. That "dinging" is actually saying "Hey dumbass, put on your seat belt" lol.

In the U.S., Driving isn't a "right" it is a privilege, so I don't know what "freedom" has to do with it.

Lets say someone gets into a car crash and are killed or disabled as a direct result of not buckling up. You think I want to pay for your disabilities or for your family's issues because their bread winner is now gone? Your issues would also help drive up hospital and insurance costs (every bit hurts). Lets not be a drain on society :)
