Dont touch them!!! Engine wrecking crap --Sold by Snake oil Salesmen!!

The "eBay" chips are not chips at all, they're resistors mounted in a fancy box. They usually just wire in line, or in place of the Intake air temp sensor and fool the computer into thinking the incoming air is colder then it really is. This fools the computer into running a slightly richer mixture of fuel so their statements are in conflict when they say more HP and more MPG. You may get more HP, but it's doing so by adding more fuel which means less MPG. Also, the ECU will eventually see something's not right when the O2 sensor tells the computer it's running too rich. It won't destroy your engine, it'll just confuse the ECU a little. It'll compensate to a happy medium at which point you're pretty much back to stock HP, etc.

If you want to try this, save yourself a ton of money and do a little research. Buy variety bag of resistors for $2, read up on the IAT resistance values at various temps and just unplug the sensor and plug in the closest resistor that meets that value into the wire harness. As I said, OBDII cars are pretty smart though, the computer will compensate in due time to the errant value and pretty much negate the effects.

They work great for the bank accounts of the guys selling them. :D

diesel is fine to tune....everyone tunes VW diesels.......engine capeable of nearly 200bhp....

Phew, thought I got here too late to warn you against buying that junk. Good to see you decided not to! :smiley_thumbs_up:
Great! where were you when I was make my order for "the Chip"...?

Actually, I only bought it to take it apart and see what it was... I had no intention of using it, since I have my Pat ported, tuned (eprom) and have the cold air kit installed... (can't wait for my tuned exhaust to come in...!)

But, the "Chip" is a scam... it's nothing more than a resistor array IC that has the id marks ground off and two leads soldered onto the #1 and #7 pins... then it's glued into a plastic case and held together with a #1 1/4" phillips screw... (oh, and a tamper indicating label...)

I really can't believe that JeepPatriot dot com shops would continue to advertise it...! What a rip-off!!!

The path to real power can only be obtained by "real" changes in engine modifications...

What about a performance tuner for the gas models? I see them using them on all sorts of new vehicles on the Spike Channel show TRUCKS!.
