Hello all, im looking for some info on upgrading my sound system. my 07 has the boston 9 speaker system. What i would like to do is install a kenwood DD receiver and use it to run my the eight speakers using the PAC C2R-CHY4 interface as well as the steering wheel control. and run a separate amp to power a more powerful 8" sub (tc epic 8) using the sub out on the deck and wiring in a 600W amp. I also want to replace all the speakers, The flip downs, doors and dash with better pieces. What im trying to avoid is rewiring the whole vehicle by using the existing wiring in place for the speakers and eliminate the boston speaker amp. Is this possible??

OK so from what i understand the amp cannot be eliminated. however the kicker upgrade amp will give me the power im looking for. I can however eliminate the stock sub and amp by simply unplugging in and running my own amp off my new deck. problem solved!

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the BA system?? I have isolated the input wires to the subwoofer amp. I plan keeping the system basically stock for right now and simply unplug the amp, tap the wires and run a highline converter to my new sub amp. Please correct me but that should work??? does anyone know which are left, right, pos, neg??

There are a couple ways you could wire in an amp using your stock head unit.

If your aftermarket amp has a High input plug, you could use that. This is what I'm using on my system, and it works fine for the most part. If your amp does NOT have a High input plug, you could find the speaker wires, and run a line out converter to hook up RCA jacks.

I tapped into my rear speakers in the B post just on the inside. Don't bother pulling the speakers, because the wires change colors when they pass from the door to the B post.

Another thing you could try is get you a 12V test light, and go to your stock amp. With the Patriot radio AND stock amp playing, use the clip of the test light on a good ground (you could use a seat bolt), and stick the probe into the harness where the wires go into. If the light pulses with the music, you have found ONE of the wires. Mark it or remember it. Continue probing until you find the second wire. Once you have found both wires (I'm assuming the stock amp pushes only one sub), splice into them with two wires of equal or larger gauge. Finding + and - is another explanation, but that should get you a good start to wire in an aftermarket amp.

Good luck!

I have the same original Boston sound system. In the past i though getting an upgrade and remember the problem was that if you buy (non jeep) stereo it is not compatible with the jeep amplifier.

Thus you have to buy an accessory (I think can bus was called) it costed around 150 euros to make your new stereo to cooperate with the original amplifier

there are several adapters out there, but i really only want to replace the sub amp. later i will get the kicker upgrade amp. The 4 input wires are left and right side and lots of mono amps have left and right input and mono output. I just dont want to cross pos and neg wires and do damage to the system. I read a write up on a wranger doing something similar but the wires described are different colors.

I am not sure if this will answer your question, but I recently did the same upgrade to my Patriot. The stock amp is still running the door speakers. There was an adapter that I had to buy to make that work. Someone mentioned that can bus adapter and that sounds correct. For the subs, I ran an RCA line from the dd to the amp.

Update: I decided to upgrade all the speakers except for the sub. Went with jbl 938s for the front and rear doors ans 328s for the flip downs and dash. I went with these because I can run them at 2ohms when I swap in the kicker upgrade amp. Right about of the box into the stock system there is more Midbass and clearer highs...not the drastic improvement as I was expecting but noticeable. Two notes for future installers. The jbl gto speaker lines have a plastic spacer on the face of the speakers. The 938s are not perminant but the 328s are. The only problem is with the dash as their mounting depth along with the spacer will nit allow the dash plate to fit. To remedy I used a heat gun to warm the plastic ring until I could lift it away. Be careful not to melt the speaker itself or to pull to fast as it holds speaker surround to the speaker frame. If done right it will lift away without issue. If they hold up great but if not I with buy a pair that will fit and replace them.in retrospect a solid pair of 2.5s are the way to go. I wasn't overly happy with the amount of cutting I had to do to get them to fit. Next on the agenda is the deck. I'm replacing the stock deck with a Bluetooth capable nbc single din. I will run a remote bass knob and remote turn on switch for the amp and subwoofer that will be installed later.
