This has come up on the Chrysler advisory board. Because some dealers want Jeeps on the lot that have the lowest sticker price they order quite a number of 4x2s. If you live in Florida and you never drive on the beach or see snow, that may be fine. In Indiana that is poor allocation of product. The problem that arises is that Jeep corporate sees sales of 4x2s fairly high, where the reality is they sit on lots for a long time and are usually sold with deep discounts.

To each their own, everybody knows what their own car needs are, but I think a 4x2 Jeep is kind of a waste.

I have to agree Jepstr67. I figured that if I go with a 4x4 I could get in and out of "situations" easier, and if I ever wanted to sell it down the road, It would have a better resale value. I'd never buy a used non 4x4 Jeep, just my opinion. But like you said, to each their own.

I can't see the Pat getting the axe anytime soon as the Riot is the only Jeep in the line up showing positive growth in both the brand and in the market segment.

GM has always wanted the Jeep brand in their stable. Jeep will never go away. They took Hummer as a second choice, and they are trying to unload that now. I would imagine that if they do merge they will first look at where their lines overlap. Currently GM has no small 4X4 suv. Last thing i remember them having in that class was the Tracker. Just a guess...

If they do not make a 2010 model for some reason..

I wonder how much our 2007, 2008, and 2009 models will end up being worth over the long run.

Short runs of cars can lead to big value down the road..

<storing jeep in garage from now on and really taking care of interior>
had to bump this....now this was written in oct...

now, question goes, what if they do not make a 2010 patriot?

I know you thought I was crazy for asking, but now it is more reasonable..

wishing I waited for that 2 for 1 deal they are talking about.

so, It is febuary.
I was looking around and could not find any info on the 2010 models.

Anyone got a link? Or is it over?
It is a little early. The switchover wouldn't happen until August (somewhere around there). I wouldn't expect anything until late June (website not changed until August) if they do what they have for several years.

My look into the chrystal ball let me see a 2010 model with no differences to the 09 model.
And Yiannis, so far i know the Mercedes Diesel engine should go into production for the Patriot in 2010 so it will be the 2011 model year when Jeep switch the engine.

Jeep is going to roam the planet for a very loooong time

Jeep is going to be around for a very long time. It's an American legend just like Harley Davidson or Caddie.

If you thought logical they would never discontinue the Patriot.

When have the American (including Canada) auto makers ever thought logical?

They discontinued the Caravan and continued with the Grand Caravan when most thinking auto makers went smaller and more fuel efficient???:soapbox:

I am not sure about that Rend's but probably you are right.

There is also the possibility that Chrysler switch to Mercedes or Fiat Diesel engine later than 2010.
If i remember correctly Chrysler ordered 30.000 2.0L TDI engines from VW few years ago.
The engine can be found in Patriot Compass Dodge Journey and other? models.
Let´s say they sold about 20.000 units until today chrysler still have 10.000 engines for sale in these vehicles. With worldwide low car sales numbers it might take longer to sell all the Diesel cars before they switch to a different engine.

I cant recall which one the Aspen even is. The PT is long overdue for it's second redesign. (Originally slated for 3G P was 2011. We missed the 23G which was scheduled for 2006. I am myphed by the Durango though as it's direct competition was the Trail Blazer and Explorer which is still somewhat a profitable market segment.

Aspen is the Chrysler "pimped" version of the Durango.
PT has been on the chopping block for a while. The retro mini hearse has been on life support.
Durango was never any good.
