Have you probed that connector to see if it is live?

Should be, I just finished using the "hidden" power wire for trailer wiring that is behind the driver's side tail lamp, it was there, live despite my owning a pretty factory stock Sport.

I suspect it is less expensive for Jeep to install one wire harness despite option packs ordered, so we all get the connectors needed, just some not used.

Maybe the lighted cupholders were an option all along, like the foglights. Except mine's pretty basic, so it's possible the cupholder bit became standard in 2010.

That's crazy to know they just snap right in and the connection is already there. There's a connector on the bottom of my 2008, I'm curious to know what it leads to now since the 2008 didn't come with light up cup holders.
that's most likely your 4x4 connector, but since you dont have 4x4, you dont have the switch. My center console only has 1 connector, for my 4x4 switch.

So... the question is: Anyone know how to find the part number for the version of this part that has the lights?

Or Metaxa - you feel like doing a swap? of the cupholder portion?
2007/2008 cup holders are molded within the center console, not a separate unit. Whole thing will have to be swapped. Maybe you could cut out the cup holders and mount the lighted ones.

He's got the 2010 revised interior, and it has removable cup holders.

It's live, comes on with the headlights and the voltage varies as you adjust the interior light dial.

but no lights? that's lame. the whole mixed interior thing was dumb. They should have just swapped it all.
Yeah, the 2009 brochure shows the lighted cup holders but in the text it says "late availability" which apparently meant "next model year". LOL!

Just a quick update: I went ahead and just ordered the cup holder assembly online.
Right now it is too cold/snowy to hit the you-pull yards... and I'm too impatient to wait for it to warm up. ;)

Hopefully later this week I can post up some comparison pictures of the parts and get it installed.

Also - I just realized that the photo that makes it "obvious" to me that my cupholders were just a temporary part before they switch to the actual light up version wasn't properly linked up above... so here it is:

There would be no logical reason to put that plastic insert in there just to make a cup holder... so I am assuming that this is where the clear plastic for the light ring will go.

We'll see later this week!

I'm glad you're going through with this. I'm curious as why they just didn't implement it.
Yeah, it is really odd.

This is from the 2009 brochure:

EDIT: photobucket really shrank that down... you could read it much easier in photoshop before I uploaded it ;)

Just a quick update - ordered the part Sunday night, got an email Monday that they didn't have the part in stock and it should ship out in 2-3 days.
That kind of stinks because I could have had it locally more quickly by ordering it from my local dealership, but its not a big deal.

Once I get the part I was going to do a "How To" thread with a bunch of pictures. In theory it should be a 10 minute job... so I'll plan on having an hour ;)

I've gotten screwed a few times with false inventory. Hopefully the swap goes well.

Yeah, I thought I was going to be saving a few $ and getting it slightly quicker... but oh well. I won't be driving the Jeep for a week anyway, so it won't matter I guess ;)

I'm hoping it is as easy as it looks... In my experience things never are though  :D

This jeep makes "easy installs" much harder than they need to be. We've found that out many times.

Srsly, you're telling me this NOW, after this whole thread established that the change happened to some models at the start of production of 2009's and went into all of them halfway through production? You're three years late to the convo, bro.

Here is another option.

As I said in another thread, you have to be willing to spend money to accessorize to get what you want out/make the most of a Jeep.

Truth be told, I don't find the illuminated cup holders to be all that great or remotely useful in any way, but if you want it, you want it. I think a more useful thing would be sticking a colored "night light" in the 12v socket and calling it a day. I also find the dome light switch to be horribly placed, as it's almost at the end of my arm's reach, which is a huge change from my Liberty, and the light coverage is wanting, to say the least. I think whomever designed the Patriot really had no idea what they were doing or they had the intention of designing a vehicle that would greatly tarnish the Jeep brand with the taint of horrible design flaws that could have (and should have) easily been avoided. Even though I like my Patriot, that's just my two cents.
