I know that in Freedom Drive II vehicles they are rated for 19" , but what about for those of us with Freedom Drive I? Is there a difference? Can any FDI owners speak for experience?

you're biggest worry would be water getting into the cab, and getting into the vents for the diffs. I know for the FDII they are up higher, above 19" to give it the 19" fording, for a FDI, they have not done that, I am not sure where the vents are for the diffs, a crawl under the car would be worth a check, but it also doesn't have the extra sealing around the doors, so I would see which is higher, the doors or the vents, and i would stop before I go to the lower one.

I haven't gone through super deep water, but usually the deepest I try to go through is just to where it starts at my doors, which is probably around 14-15" since I've measure nearly 12" of ground clearance. The nice thing about our diffs is that the diffs themselves are tuck up nice and high so if they are submerged as AIC said the breathers are up higher (on FDII) I would imagine the breather's for FDI's wouldn't be super close to the diff themselves, but I can't confirm this.

ya if you bring the vents up to the level of the of the intake and do some sealing work you could sink her up to the headlights lol

I went through some real deep stuff before. It was over my front bumper since the wave I was creating was over the front hood. The jeep started to float some and I lost traction on the bottom the pond/lake/river but managed to use my momentum to get across. It didn't stall somehow and my transmission hasn't had any problems with the breather or whatever it is called.
I definitely don't recommend doing this.
Personally I don't think there are any differences between the water fording depths of fd1 and fd2 for the manual transmission.

You're doing it wrong. You need to go faster to have a proper bow wave which helps prevent water from entering the engine.

Oh i don't doubt I may have been doing it wrong but as I said before this water wasn't very deep. Based on my lift and larger tires what I went though wasn't even close to doing any damage

I did hydrolock the motor this year (not in that video). My first thought was "YAY HEMI!!!!" But actually after changing the oil and cleaning the mud off the MAF sensor (yes it truly had a chunk of mud on it) it runs better today then it has in a long time. Just needed a bath I guess.

I ran through about 1.5-2" of water at about 30mph and managed to get the air filter a little damp..

I"m sure I will wreck my diffs or PTU with water, before I damage my engine with water ingestion. If you go slow, and don't cause any huge waves I can't see how you could ingest water unless you were going through really deep water, I would say anything over 36" and you'd be flirting with the devil. "m not saying it can't happen in less water because it has, but for my uses I can't see myself every hydro-locking my engine
As I said before I avoid water all the time, but this was at the very beginning of the day, and I watched someone go through it first, didn't really want to be left behind right at the beginning of the trail.
