Thought I'd post a little review in case anyone was looking at the same speaker.

I was looking for a small sub to help with the low end. I didn't want a lot of bass, just something to give the jeep some bottom end. I mostly listen folk, rock, alt country stuff. I've replaced the head unit and the factory speakers.

Enter the SRV250. It took about 30 minutes to install. It has a wiring harness that connects to the harness on the back of the radio. I used rca's (bought separately) to connect to the sub out on my Kenwood. It has wires for high input, but I didnt use them. Its small and fits easily under the front seat.

I've been playing with it for a few days and I have to say I'm disappointed. The sound is harsh to my ears. It doesn't sound "natural" or "musical". It can get pretty loud, and it puts out a lot of bass, just not pleasing bass. To my ears anyway. I dont know really any other way to describe it.

Anyway...

I ordered a Polk 8, a small sealed box, and a 300 watt amp to replace the Clarion. It's going back.

I always wondered about those small powered subwoofers. I never heard of the Clarion, but I had contemplated the MTX one or the Bazooka to save space. But I've never had the guts to take the leap of faith on them. Always mixed reviews. I think you'll be much happier with a more standard enclosure and amp. Let us know how it ends up sounding and how much room it takes up!

I've had lots of subs over the years.(Im 31 now). The only other all in one I've had was the infinity basslink, which I though sounded fantastic. I had a 12 in my last car but it was way too much. Ive also had 10s. Im thinking the 8 will suit my purposes well.

Clarion used to make nice stuff. I used to buy their head units. Always great products. This was a let down. Just didnt sound musical at all. I agree about the mixed opinions on the all in one units. I figured a nice sub in a box is a safe bet.

the problem with those small form all-in-one subs is that there is almost no room for the sub to operate in, giving it that Tupperware sound. If you arent wanting a bunch of power, grab some 6" mid-bass drivers and adapter plates and shove them in the back doors, or all doors if you want. I plan on doing that with 4 fostgates-http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_43386_Rockford-Fosgate-PPS4-6.html

Sorry to hear about the disappointment with the all in one. Should have checked the outpost, I have a TC sounds epic 8, a box built to fit perfectly in the patriot cargo area, and a 600.2 amp. Together it's the perfect amount of bass for us who actually like to hear music with our bass!

I already ordered the 8. Ill see how that sounds. I wasnt expecting the Clarion to be great, but man its awful.

I had the MTX Thunderlink for quite a few years and used it in several vehicles. I always thought it sounded good, but it was quite a bit bigger than the Clarion. It definitely wouldn't fit underneath the seat in a Patriot. I got rid of it because I thought it took up too much space in the Patriot.

Thanks for posting this review. I've been browsing at some of these subs for my Wrangler since my amp/sub got pulled from it to go in my Patriot. Looks like I may be sticking with the traditional sub box with separate amp.

Looks great! And glad it sounds great! Seeing the size of the enclosure got me thinking. The 8 inch subwoofer in the 9 speaker Boston Acoustic stereo system fits in that space above the rear right wheel well. Has anyone been successful in getting an aftermarket sub to work there? It would probably require to jeep to work with it to a degree. I might have to inquire with them about that.

Creation had a big-ass 8" in there. custom box though. I believe the only difference between the BA sub and standard aftermarket subs is the screw pattern. No biggie, make new screw holes. I would suggest upgrading the amp too, but the BA is DVC, so you could get a good quality 250watt DVC sub in there and it would sound nicer than the BA.

I had a TC sounds epic 8 with a 600 watt amp pushing it and it sounded phenomenal. I'd highly recommend it. Since I'm selling my patriot, the sub, box and amp are all up for sale as well.

Yeah. There is no comparison in the quality of sound from a proper sub. If the clarion was all I could get, Id just not get anything.
