over at MIKES TOTALLY FREE JEEP site.

I'm getting more interested every time they sneak a new spy shot of the 2008
Liberty.

Some one tell me if they get the same hint (wishful thinking) as I got in the article when they're talking about the suspension. Are they considering a solid FRONT axle in at least one or more versions of the the Liberty. That would be sweet.

Yeah I was scouring the the page to see what they said about the front suspension. I like the way they put it...

"Although we couldn't crawl under this prototype for an up-close inspection, it appears that the Liberty will utilize the same independent front suspension and five-link rear suspension found on the Nitro, but perhaps some changes are possible if Jeep engineers feel the need for some more trail-cred" [http://blogs.edmunds.com/.ee94578]

They pretty much told Jeep to put solid axles on it :p

It would be nice for it to have a solid front axle, but I doubt it'll happen. Too many people want IFS for the smoother ride. Also, I like the idea of offering a solid axle in one model and an IFS in another, but I have a feeling that might affect too many other parts (steering/drivetrain/etc) for it to be economically viable to do that. Although I'm not a mechanic, so that assessment could be incorrect.

Although if it does have a solid-axle offering, sign me up for one :D

I'm not even a casual garage mechanic, but I think there is a solid front axle modification one can make to current model Libertys.

I really think having two solid axles would be a big seller for the 2008 model. Especially, after all the negative publicity Jeep received over the IFS problems of the current Liberty.

While Jeep did receive negative publicity, the Liberty is still one of their top sellers.

I think that if they did a "Rubicon" edition of the KK, itd be nice to have it come with a solid axle. That way anyone who actually will want to do work to it in the future, doesn't have to go through the pain of the solid axle swap. The other versions could have the IFS for the better road handling.

But to be honest, I don't know of any other SUV/truck that gives the consumer a choice between solid and IFS -- and there is probably a good reason for that, so I'm not keeping my fingers crossed.

If they would come out with a "Rubicon" edition, I would hope that they leave the "Rubicon" moniker for the Wrangler. How about naming the Liberty's version something like "Cherokee 4x4 Off-Road"? Let the people in Europe decide how they will deal with the confusion of the Cherokee moniker:)) XJ owners had it first here in the US!!!!
