This may sound dumb but recently I installed an aftermarket K&N intake on my patriot to make it sound cool basically knowing it wouldn't really improve fuel economy etc. but I thought it looked cool and might at least filter the air better. Ever since I installed it (about 4 months now) the gas mileage has decreased by up to 2 miles a gallon and im starting to have a throttling issue where its almost lagging or puttering at low rpms and less so at higher speeds. But between 10-40 it's almost not getting gas consistently or maybe the airflow is an issue. I checked the connection of the intake but I don't think anything is loose. Could this be the mass airflow sensor or maybe an 02 sensor? It's still idling very smooth and no check engine light has come on but Im getting avg 18.5 mpg where as before it was around 20.5 and I'm not driving it any differently. It's accelerating weakly and inconsistently. Call me an idiot but any advice would help.

This is very odd, as I have the K&N intake and I gained fuel economy and performance got smoother at all rpms, you got the opposite. What I would suggest right away is leave the battery disconnected overnight then reconnect it and take it for a drive. It should restore all settings to factory 9ECM ect) and see if that solves anything.

Mine came with the oil on it(filter was already purple), and probably if anything improved smoothness and economy. Computer had to get used to it, but it's a good piece. Did you put your snorkus back on? Could be restricting airflow a little.
