The Hurricane and the stupid Concept Motorcyle Dodge built a while back are good examples of why the auto companies are currently in the toilet.

What a waste. Maybe we could all have saved a couple hundreds on our patriots if they would stop with ridiculous concepts. Honest concepts are fine, but really a motorcycle with four wheels and a hemi, or an off-road coupe with 2 engines.
Companies need projects for innovation for a competing market, so I defend the Hurricane. They just have to show off what they can do and are capable of. But I'm with you on the motorcycle, if that thing has four wheels it's no longer a motorcycle.
But look at the Gladiator, for those of us that love Jeeps they haven't had a truck utility vehicle in years. I think they should build it, It would be my next buy. They need to be sensible enough to use the technology from a concept to improve the manufactured product.

I liked the gladiator too. Looked like a real Jeep and a real truck.

Gladiator looks nice but no comfort for rear passengers. I guess that would be worked out before production if that is going to ever happen.

Aaand then they go back to screwing it all up in the production models, making them bland and boring. :soapbox: Damn it, I want to see companies bringing concept model level of nifty into production!

Needed: New smaller than Wrangler Wrangler Jr....

I've owned a YJ and a ZJ, now a Patriot.

The latest iteration of the Wrangler is now too big for my taste. Yes, the Unlimited (4 doors) was needed, and yes the Wrangler is quite capable. But those 5 extra inches width were too much for me. Seems Jeep wanted to get military orders again and/or compete with the H3.

How about returning to Jeep roots and giving us a SMALL, capable 4 wheel drive Jeep again. TORQUE included, 6-speed tranny, transfer case too, 10" ground clearance, and easily upgradeable (wheel well clearance for bigger tires, etc.). Something to fit below the Wrangler. 4 cylinder diesel. Go anywhere and park anywhere. Priced like the Patriot, roughly. :smiley_thumbs_up:

I'd buy that, just for the fun of it (I do miss the trails, and I don't mean back roads with a few potholes).

Waday'all think o' that?

I hereby second that motion. :smiley_thumbs_up:

I guess Cerberus is putting zero money into developping right now.
All those models mentioned before won´t be born until 2012 or later.

I like the TrailHawk and think it would be an easy addition for Jeep's lineup. The Gladiator looks amazing, very much like a true old Jeep. My only complaint is that back seat looks like it's worthless for anyone over 40lbs. The other two just look like they would be toys with no real functionality besides getting muddy and climbing steep inclines...which of course is what a Jeep is for, so I'll take one of each please!

I completely agree with that. Just yesterday I saw a new Wrangler, 2dr next to a CJ5, and it was like seeing a VW bug parked beside a freaking Yukon. It boggled my mind. I thoguht the TJ was getting a tad big for my taste but after seeing the JK, forget it. One of the reason I went with the Pat ovr the Wrangler was size.

The concept from Jeep that I fell for the instant I saw it was this one...

...Powered by a Cummins Diesel and featuring seating for five, the Jeep Rescue’s primary mission is rescue capability, and its list of rescue and safety equipment is impressive:

* AC electric power (10 kW) generation in the field
* 3-D topographical mapping software and topographical navigation system
* Under- chassis, point-of-view cameras for avoiding danger in its path
* Passive, infrared (thermal) cameras for search and rescue
* Satellite telephone; VHF radio, digital video recorder with satellite transmission capability
* Retractable 4-point harnesses for vehicle occupants
* Exterior perimeter lighting
* White LEV lighting for long distance visual search and reduced power use
* Folding seats in rear compartment of vehicle
* Remote control winch – front and back

Based on everything I've read it appears to be a new Scrambler.
I have to admit I'm crazy in love w/ the Rescue and wonder why they don't plan to release it (as far as I know)! Jeep does have a niche market doesn't it? They don't have to produce massive quantities...

The Rescue was simply a design exersize off of which they built the JK unlimited.

I did hear however, of a Patriot EV debuting in Chicago [naias] this year.

The Jeep Trailhawk has really got my attention the first time I saw it...
This jeep rocks from interior to exterior... :smiley_thumbs_up:
expect to see at least some of that concept in the new JGC, also debuting soon. Think of this new Cherokee to be a mix of the Mercedes m-class & the Trail-hawk (from what I've read).

The Scrambler seems to make sense. With Chrysler barely hanging on, by adding a "truck" to the Jeep line-up, they have a 'complete' car/truck line.

Should they 'merge' with GM as some speculate will happen, the Jeep line can exist on its own and all Chrysler dealers could become "Jeep" only stores, keeping perhaps 1000-1500 Chrysler dealers in business. Only the 'weaker' dealers would close. You know, "Survival of the Fittest".
