I have bad news....my beautiful red Patriot has been officially totalled due to a hailstorm. I will not be getting another Patriot due to the water leak that was never cured. I will miss everything else about it, I want to thank all on this wonderful site for the info and discussions. Everyone on here is awesome. Thank you!

You could get another without the Sunroof, then no worries about water leaks!

leak and hail damage doesnt sound that bad,
would still make decent second car or good car for someone who doesnt care about looks,
any chance of keeping it?
or if labelled totaled do they give you the money and take the car?

I will get pics on soon. They totalled it and if I want to buy it back it would cost me 7,600 to buy it back. Them I would get a reconstructed title after I take it to a special inspection station. They'll give me 16,600 and take it off my hands. The water damage from the sunroof being busted out from the hail is what sent it over the edge. There was not a straight panel on the car from the hail. It was truly tennis ball size. The car really smelled from the mold already setting in. I don't think the car is worth buying back at this point in time.

16,600 Isn't bad.... I didn't get much more for my nearly perfect 2012 with only 13k miles... You could almost buy a brand new sport with limited options for that amount of money... (if you were going to go with a another patriot)

I would probably take the 16k, and buy another vehicle vs buying back one that smells like mold.

Sorry to hear that, hail is a *****

That's what I would do. Buying it back, fixing it, and going through all the inspection processes sounds like more effort than it's worth.

At least you can drive a hail damaged car--my brother had his Piper Cherokee seriously damaged in a hail storm in the mid west a few years back--and the dimples really disturbed the air flow, he couldn't get it into the air, so didn't try any further. I went back armed with a can (large...can) of Bondo, and some sandpaper and filled in the major holes and divots. It looked like Hell, but I flew it--some minor differences in the handling, tho!
