Would you purchase a second Patriot?

Here's the reason behind the question... My wife's Dodge Ram 1500 Quad Cab (aka BART, yes it has a Hemi) pickup is just too costly to keep. She goes to work in one direction and I, go in the opposite direction. We both have to be at work at the same time so sharing one vehicle won't work.

She is impressed with the fact that the Patriot gets much better gas mileage than almost anything else offered on the road. Not many four door, five passenger vehicles City MPG start in the 20's, most are below that and only get into the 20's if you do alot of highway driving. She doesn't do any highway driving going back and forth to work, or when she runs errands.

So she has asked that I start shopping for a Patriot for her (she wants the Inferno Red Crystal Pearl) to sit in the driveway next to my SBO Sport.

So..... If you were faced with this opportunity, or need to get another economical daily driver, would you put another Jeep Patriot in your driveway?

I would. I do all city type driving and am getting a steady 19mpg. I have close to 700 miles on mine. I traded an 05 dodge dakota V8 for my Patriot. I compaired most of the small suv's and even the nissan frontier truck. The patriot gets the best gas mileage. I am looking at saving over a grand a year on gas compaired with the dodge dakota I had. The 4 cylinder in the patriot is a lot more powerful than I expected. So if it were me I would get a trail rated model to go along with my 4x4 sport.

We bought a Compass for my wife in January and a Patriot for me in February. After I drove the compass I really liked it. So I ordered a Patriot. A very simple one, but still 4x4. My wife prefers the styling of the Compass. Not so "screw the environment" as she put it. (She is a big BIG Democrat! You notice I still have her driving a Jeep and not a Prius. Compromise is a wonderful thing.) If she had liked the Patriot styling we would definitely have 2 Patriots. She'd have a fancy one, and I'd still have my 25D.

So in answer to the question, Yes. Buy one for everybody in the house!

As an update, the wife wants to drive my Patriot to work tomorrow so she can get an idea as to what it would be like if she had one of her own... I'll have BART to use tomorrow...

Here is an early picture of BART... BART currently sports a new billet aluminum grill, locking gas door, and a third brake light cover. Also added door rain guards, front tinted windows, LED Brake Light bar, a FlowMaster dual exhaust system and a soft tonneau bed cover...

Will be sad to see it go.....

Do not misunderstand me, I love my 'riot... and I originally bought it for its class leading offroad performance and its fuel economy. But the only way I would by a second one now is if they released the CRD with US Specs or they some how added alot more torque to the 2.4 and made "a real offroad package" (yes I said it) with at least a 25:1 ratio for it.

Basically my heart has changed since my time of buying it... First it was for economy because I really wasn't aware of the vast oppurtunities I had to go wheeling and see things I wouldn't normally see by going offroading. Now that I know this is available to me I don't want to get stuck... :p So my next Jeep in about 2-3 years will either be the new KK Liberty or possibly a KJ Liberty CRD or a JK Wrangler. But again this will depend on fuel prices at the time as well as their mileage, offroad ability, available aftermarket parts, etc...

Now obviously this could change too as I get more and more accustomed to the abilities and limitations of the 'riot as well as an awakening of the aftermarket companies.

I would definitely get another one, no question about it. My wife loves her Camry, so getting another one is out, at least for the present, but it's the greatest small pickup with a camper back built in that I know of!

My wife actually asked me if I wanted to turn my 2005 Scion xB in at the end of it's lease, (March 30th), and buy another Patriot for me to use, as I really like the '08 Limited that we bought for her.

Had to think about that one long and hard.

I'm choosing to keep the xB because of the gas mileage, (34MPG), and, while it doesn't have as comfortable of a ride as the Patriot - nor 4WD - it is an exceptional daily driver for me... and it's so ugly, it's cute. LOL

If I didn't have the xB, we would buy another Patriot in a heartbeat.

My environmentalist wife has been asking for something we can burn bio-diesel in. She will be looking for a Compass Diesel and not a Patriot. It will be interesting to see if or when a diesel is offered here in the USA.

miss my econocar

If I could keep the pat as backup, will probably go back to an econocar ,
Since they don't make the neon will probably look at the focus,
If I do get another suv will probably be the escape or vue,
Another factor I will look at is where its made
Rather walk than send $20k or so overseas

Amen Terasec...

As an update, we just got back from looking at what the dealer has in inventory. She also has now indicated a Compass can be considered as an option....

I like my Patriot

Before my Pat I owned two Wranglers.. (99 Sahara then a 06 Sport) Now I have an 07 Patriot. There are many pros that I am enjoying but I have a feeling that I am going to miss the top and doors off in the summer.... Would I buy another? Yea, its a great ride.....but when I'm rich I'm gonna buy me a beater Wrangler for getting lost summer time rides!

When I'm done with the Patriot, I wouldn't mind having something like a vehicle dedicated to spring/summer/fall, and a Jeep for the winter. I don't think I'd get a Patriot again, but I'd be very interested in something like a trail-rated 4x4 Wrangler Unlimited.

I know my plan is seriously flawed due to not taking money into consideration, but I'm young and MPG are probably the least of my worries at this point. ;)

I probably wouldn't purchase a 2nd Patriot, since our need for the hauling ability of a SUV isn't that large or frequent (which is why I bought the Patriot over some other SUV in the first place).

However, if something were to happen to mine tomorrow, I'd most likely replace it with another...though I might wait to see what the improved 2009 interior is like, and I probably would opt to add the improved speaker system which I didn't get the first time around. Considering I'm averaging almost 24 MPG in my daily commute (all within the city limits) it'd be hard to find anything that offers the versatility and economy, that isn't a minivan or station wagon.

If my next one cannot be a CRD I would get something else- it would have to be a diesel

Woke up this morning and the wife says she has decided that a Jeep Compass is what she wants! She has even narrowed down the color, model and options. She wants a Surf Blue Pearl in a Sport model with the 26E option group.

Should look something like this:

Just conducted a inventory search of the local dealers and there are three that match her requirements. Anyone want to buy a Big A$$ Red Truck (aka BART) with a HEMI? ;)
