Wheel lock and bad dealer

:soapbox: Okay this is a rant, you've been warned.

My new Jeep came with Mopar wheels lock. The dealer had them installed by default on all new vehicle they sell. I didn't know that and was not informed prior to the events of yesterday.

So yesterday morning I dropped the Jeep at the dealer instructing them to change the oil, to replace my cracked shifter boot and *oh yes, its spring * so please mount my summer tires. No problem they say. Uh uh .. Got a call at the office around 11:30 am. : "Sir we can't find the key so we can't mount your new tires"

Asking them what they talking about (key ?) I remember : " oh yes, I DID saw something looking like a lug nut rolling around in my glovebox please look there"

2nd phone call : "Sir we can't find it, all the other things on the list are done, do you still want your new tires ?"

"Sure I say"

"Then Sir, we'll have to crack open the lock, that's ll be at least an hour @ 119$"

Me : WTF !!!!???

I go on to explain them that there is no way I'll ever pay that sum just to remove something THEY put on without my consent and without telling about the oh so important fu***ng key. If i'm so affraid that my *factory* wheels get stolen, I and I alone would have chose to install locks.

I also asked to have a replacement key, but they go on telling me that they can't unless I provide them with a serial number that I am supposed to have too. Where ? You guessed it .. the serial number is WITH the key, written on a piece of cardoard that was in the dash. LIE! I called the guy who sold me the Jeep and he's absolutely positive he did tell me and did provide me with the serial no. I assure him that I don't remember him telling me this. It's my word against his, but i know that he lie. My word worth nothing to them and I'm supposed to believe theirs ?

I went after work and paid for the oil change , got my into Jeep and promise myself to never ever go there again.

Wtf with this dealer ? It is my first new car and this alone plus all the other mishaps they did on me since I bought there really got me thinking twice about wether or not my next purchase will be new. I never had this much trouble with used cars. At least I knew what to expect and knew that I was on my own.

Do I have to go to Chrysler for maintenance work ?

My take on wheel nut : Not worth it

My take on this dealer(s ?): Liars!

Also, I called my local mechanic (a really nice guy) he told me he would remove them for free. He went saying how crap these are and that they always have to crack them open because of stripped and/or lost key. I believe him.

I have a family, a job, hobbies and my time worth alot to me... It's so frustrating. I Hope they burn in hell.

Agreed, anyone looking at steeling your wheels isn't going to move on to the next because you have wheel locks, waste of time and money for your self and whom ever may be servicing the wheels. Not sure if you have to go to a Chrysler dealer or not for service to cover warranty, I don't think so, but for warranty work of course I believe has to be done by the dealer, but don't quote me on it

On anything other than a Supercar like a Lamborghini or a Ferrari, locking wheelnuts are a pain. You're right; the person they're most likely to inconvenience is you. I have the same thoughts about them as I do with these crackpot websites that give you a password like RO7789fky823kb78, and there's no facility to change it, and no, you MUST NOT write this password down or trust it to someone else. Yeah, right.....P155 off....

I've always had wheel locks lol, They came with my ugly ford escort (previous car i had) and they came with my pat. I kinda like them actually, it makes me feel safe that my wheels won't get stolen eventhough nobody probably would ever want them. Just got to remember the key to unlock them, its that simple.

Mine came with the locks too, but no one, not the tire places, the dealer, no one has even asked for the key, which is in the glove box. I know the Jeep dealers have removed the locks with their own keys, not mine, so they must have masters, or there are only so many "keys" or they are all the same, I don't know. They left one of those covers for the keys, same as key is in, in the car last time they rotated the tires, so I know they used their own.

Some dealers are terrible, no doubt.
