What would you change about your Patriot?

If you could go back to when you were ordering or looking at the Pat's on the lot, what would be one (or some) of the options you would like to have a restart on?

I am getting close to pulling the trigger on a Pat, and I am hung up on the SATNAV. I have never had it in a car from the factory, and with the price I can get a Pat at right now, it is really worth it, however, I have a strong dislike for the silver bumpers on the Limited, nor do I care for the chrome accents.

Anyway what are your thoughts, besides the leaking I am hearing so much about. BTW is that fixed?

I would've got the manual tranny rather then the CVT. But the dealership gave me a good deal on it because they wanted to sell it off their lot.

I didn't want electric windows, because my last two cars both had issues and it cost a lot to repair, so I went with manual windows and locks. Miss not having automatic locks, it's a pain. However the windows are not an issue for me as I don't roll them down much anyways... but one annoying thing about the manual windows is that when the seats are laid down they hang up on the window roll down mechanism, it's a design flaw.

I purchased a 2009 in July. Due to the high demand for the Cash for Clunkers promotion I had to drive 200 miles away to get one and it was the last one on the lot, so I had to take what I could get. It had the wheel upgrade and the E package which I was happy with. I bought a used MyGig (non nav) and replaced the factory radio which was very easy to do. I wish that I had fog lights, the Boston Acoustics speaker upgrade, and maybe the computer thing that shows direction and stuff (can't remember what it's called). I am very happy with what I have though. The YES fabric is awesome- it's stain resistant and really works. I spilled an entire cup of coffee on the passenger seat and it wiped up without leaving a single stain. I've heard the leather is actually mostly vinyl. I test drove a limited and wasn't impressed with it- very hard and slick.

I got a brochure for the 2010 Patriot. I like the colored door handles but dislike the silver bumpers. The only other difference, from what I could see, was the solid headrest and I have to say I have no opinion on that :icon_rolleyes::icon_rolleyes:

I bought mine used but if I were to order a new one it would be exactly the same. I like the leather seats a bit, I sat in a cloth one and those are good too, but the leather feels great to me.

If I had the choice at the time of my purchase I`d have gotten a DIESEL (hope this pleases Tiptronic :)) and maybe a sunroof, factory SatNav, silver metallic color, YES fabric seats (I don`t have them) ... mmm can`t thing of any other major issues, but I still love my Pat as it is :D

Mine did that too, so pull the rear window crank handles, and reposition them. Easy to do, but if you can't, just ask the service guys at the dealer next time you go in. I was afraid mine was opening the rear windows slightly, from the rear seats bouncing against the window crank, so moved them to be out of the way when rolled closed.

I also do not like power windows and door locks.

Things I would like different:

Tinted windows should be stock
map lights should be stock
Black muffler
Somewhere inside that locks (like the old glove boxes)
A bit more lift, like 2-4 inches in off road models
more room in the wheel wells
flared wheel wells
cross bars should be stock (they used to be)
Wiper controls, should be different switches for intermittent and slow and high, not move through all intermittent, to get to slow, and through that to high.
a bit brighter headlamps
yellow, and better fog lights
outside rack for spare (more space inside, could be 8 inches deeper, and easier access to spare when back is loaded)
Full size spare, standard
better cupholders (tough using two on a trip with one under the center arm rest)
Better horn, stock seems a bit wimpy
More range, bigger gas tank
Better hanger for the gas cap when refueling

Ok, that's it for now, I'm sure as soon as I hit "post" I'll think of more.

Never even thought to do that, thanks! I have a new project tonight. They do open the window if there is enough weight on them. I love this forum, it solves problems!

If I had to choose again I would have;

Black or Green instead of Silver
Sport instead of Limited (I wanted fog lights, and can only have them on the limited)

And if change mine after three years, then that's probably what I would go for.

I would change color. I don't like the black because all the rubber trim is black and does not stand out from the body color. I'd go with orange, Optic Green or the new medium blue color. I feared I'd get tired of surf blue.

I would have liked power windows, locks and low range gearing, but all three come with other options I absolutely did not want. I.E. can't get low range with the manual transmission. Can't get power locks without the alarm system. Can't get any options and still get vinyl seats.

I'd have liked the CRD (not available here), as well as the Boston Acoustics system (I put in new speakers, so I'm prob. even on that). I might have deleted the moon roof- I just don't use it that much.

The leather seats are nice, if cold in the winter.

For me, I'm usually the only one in the vehicle, so really have no need for power locks or windows. And if someone else comes in, I can lean over and unlock their door. Most of the time mine is unlocked anyway, at home and at work.

I'm another C4C person, and bought the last 4x4 Pat in town, so I had to take what I could get. I'm pleased with the Jeep, and the color (Lt. Sandstone) has worked out better than I thought it would.

Illuminated cup holders.
KEY locks on the doors and hatch.
Tow hooks.
Cross bars.

First of all I would have dipped the entire thing in glue and let it try to a hard rock finish had I known about the leaks

I wanted dark green but to this day I still can not find any on cars.com or any dealer websites. I would have gotten 4 wheel drive and the sun and sound package.
I do have the power locks, CVT power windows and fold flat seat as well as the 110 outlet. My flashlight has never worked.
I added cross bars and fog lights can be added for less then $200.
U can order either yes or leather seat covers from moparpartz reasonably. I have the oe CH-4100 navigation system I installed myself and is made for the funky hole. I got it off ebay for a steal at $300. I mounted the nav unit under the center console ad put the antena in the square box top on the dash so no need to change the bezel.

I would have designed the thing where the cup holders were not in the floorboard and then they wouldnt need to be lighted (I got a night light in my plug)

SO in essence I can make or improve most anything I didnt get but the 4x4.

BUT BACK TO YOU! I WOULD DEFINATELY Get a 4x4 because on my bad days I feel like I am driving around a squared off 1974 pinto station wagon. And on my REALLY REALLY bad days, I think about how it makes u feel when a small car pulls up and a bunch of clowns get out of it.. Is that what people are thinking about me ????

I like too have grown to like the silver but again I WISH I HAD DARK JEEP GREEN!!
Aftermarket Sunroof installation is next week.

I had to think long and hard about the answer to the "what would you change?" question. I've had my Pat exactly a year now and apart from missing the ride height and power of my old Grand Cherokee I'm extremely happy with my Pat. I may have mentioned it before on here but I'm constantly surprised at the differences in trim levels available on this vehicle and although I didn't purchase new from a Jeep dealer I'm really glad I got the "limited". I seem to have got purely by chance, a lot of "stuff" you guys in North America and Canada don't get as standard but are on your wish lists!
I would however love an auto dimming mirror as you have to reach so far forward to flick the little lever on the manual one. Seems trivial I know but everyone seems to either have maladjusted lights or more and more manufacturers are fitting HID beams on their cars. Also, speaking of lights, the high beams on my Pat are...well it's difficult to describe really...they just don't light the road ahead. They're plenty bright but I feel that they're probably dazzling some poor Virgin Airways pilot on late flight into the uk!
Other than that, I'm HAPPY!!

I was going to write these on some of the old threads but I guess I might as well go here... I love the looks of Patriot and driving seems to put smile on my face too, but there are many things that bug me:

1. No headlight washers of any kind! Serious lack. I haven't used a single car since 1980 that didn't have light washers.

2. Another thing that has been standard in Japanese cars since 80s-90s: automatic headlights (I guess daytime running lights means the same). This option is provided by the Jeep so I asked the price from local dealer: 400€ ($576) so no thanks!

3. Left bar behind the steering wheel is lousy in many ways (or stick or what you call it, the thing with headlight - turn signal switches).

3.1 There are too many options on the bar. I mean, why in the h*ll would you need to adjust the brightness of instrument panel lights from that switch (=dimmer)??

3.2 And the switch bar itself is weak - but still too much force is needed to turn blinkers on. Especially when pushing upwards (right blinker): not a day goes by that I don't accidentally turn high beams on when trying to turn right blinker on.

3.3 You have to pull the light switch out after turning it to get the fog lights on.

3.4 (Front and rear fogs lights are standard here) You should be able to turn rear fog lights only, because sometimes it's legal to use rear lights but not front (dusting snow).

Other controls (dashboard, radio and cruise stick) are good and easy to operate even with your gloves on.

4. Small gas tank - small if compared to fuel consumption.

5. Gas tank cap is ridiculous, you need key from ignition and it's very difficult to operate. Cable-operated opening system is so much easier...

6. Cargo area load floor is easy to clean, surely, but because of it's hard plastic material it's so slippery that nothing keeps still when driving corners - and the floor seems to make annoying noise too at least when it's cold.

7. Standard accessories are not very luxury even with Limited: daytime running lights and light washers already mentioned but if we look for example our twelve-year old Carina E I would've also expected these: more interior lights (ignition key, cigarette lighter / ashtray, glove compartment), heated windshield (bottom of it, where wipers tend to freeze on), rear seat center arm rest, lockable glove compartment (at least here insurance companies do mind if there's no lock). I guess A/C could be automatic too, since we're talking about a car with $48500 price tag (the price of Limited in 2008 here).

The ONLY thing I would like to have changed on my Pat is that driver seat plastic rail cover my pants always get caught in as I exit the vehicle.

If I could exchange Mrs. Kah in the front passenger seat for something a bit more "modern"... I would but that ain't gonna happen in this life-time!!!

I'm not crazy about the cruise control location on my wife's riot....
I have a 5 speed, so I really notice the difference in noise level with her CVT. I find any benefit of the smooth shifting is overshadowed by the screaming engine and noisy CVT.
Her is leased though so we don't have to keep it, or find out how long the CVT will last :)
