I use mine mainly for my laptops. When tailgating season rolls back around I plan to get plenty of use out of it between my crock pot and small TV (especially with the cool drop down speakers that I can run it through with the Ipod integration. I'm also looking forward to a very stress free and comfortable camping season with my family on the self inflating airbed thanks to my outlet! I hope to simultaneously run an inverter on the lighter outlet at some point as well. Does anyone know if this is even possible or will it kill the battery to quick?

Thanks for the list. Some things I didn't know about. Guess that's why they tell you to avoid using a hairdryer and iron at the same time. I think I might have to try and find a coffee maker that will work in the patty. I think I'll check into one of those one cup hot shots and see their wattage, that would be great.

I bought a small shop vac for the pat...and didnt realize it had a 3 prong plug so now I will need an adapter....but other than that I have used it to pump up an air mattress a few times and charge my cell phone, my daughter uses it for her laptop

A Resmed CPAP machine (for sleep apnea) when camping -- bet there are not many persons out there with that use!!

I have charged my camera batteries in it. Most of the other items I use in the car I have already bought the car adapter for or they came with the items. Ipod adapter I bought, DVD player came with one.

For comparison, a standard household circuit in the US is 110V, 20 amps, which will max out at approx. 2000W. A wall socket just won't provide more than that- the socket itself can fry (unless it is a 30A outlet) or you'll pop the breaker/fuse. Specialized circuits for things like an electric range, dishwasher, water heater, and so on have much thicker wiring and beefier breakers, so they'll handle more, but for the usual wall outlet, you're looking at about a 15 or 20 amp max on the circuit (15A if you're in a crappily wired apartment, 20A in a decently built house).

That's a really good idea!

I use my plug to power a 120V air pump. It's just barely strong enough to do it, the engine has to be at idle to get enough amps. The pump inflates and deflates large rafts/air mattreses in minutes. A 12V pump takes twice as long.

Let's be realistic, it is for a laptop for those of us who decide not to drop the 2 g's for the NavSys. If I really need to power things, I pull out my inverter and plug in a powerstrip. On a recent trip from WI to OK and back, I had 2 laptops (IT geek here), camera charger, walkie talkie charger, and my sons DVD player plugged in.

I don't have my Patriot yet (it is on order) but I know pretty much the only thing going in the outlet is my laptop.

110 Inverter

Have to admit my wife used it once to use a cassette player to listen to some Harry Potter books on tape from the Library. They didn't have the CDs or we could have put the whole book in the 6 in-dash disc changer. Also a breast pump since we needed that for our recent long trip to Denver with the newborn.

All I can say is that those that plan to use this outlet a lot while the Patriot is turned off and for those with the Boston Acoustic system I seriously recommend you get a deep cycle battery. I was listening to my radio while washing my Pat last weekend and my battery died out on me. I was listening to the radio for almost 45 minutes, not long you may say, but considering it does have an amplifier built in and cranking it up to 25 did drain the battery pretty fast. I understand that most may not listen to the radio this loud, or for as long, but a deep cycle battery can get you out of harms way. Not only that, for those that plan to add accessories such as lights, dvd players, winches later it would be a good investment. I am thinking of buying the Optimal Yellow Top Battery. At 175 dollars is pretty steep, but considering it does have a 7 year warranty and can be cycled more than 30 times (dont quote me on this, but it is high) I think it is one of the best investments you can make.
I bought a Optima Red Top Battery a couple of years back for my wifes 04 Impala and it has given us no trouble with temperatures from 15 to 120 degrees.

In 11 months, I am going to follow Jimmy's recomendation and run X-mas lights (mainly to annoy the cops) but more importantly to make the Boss (wife) jealous.
