I found a used 2007 Jeep Patriot Sport with 14,500 miles priced at $15,999. It has the 26E package with cruise control and CVT. It was leased out as a rental vehicle, thus the high mileage in such a short amount of time.

I just wanted to get everyone's opinion on this deal. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I had bought a car that was a year old, came out of a rental fleet, had 13,500 miles. I never had any problems with it. I think if you can get a good deal on it, I would go ahead and try for it. Be nice to be able to see it's service records.

Sounds like a decent deal but just keep in mind that some rentals are treated less than kind.

Yeah, I've heard both ways. One view is that rentals are closely inspected after every customer, therefore they are better taken care of. The other view is that customers treat rentals like crap.

Also, what do you think a "good deal" for this vehicle would be?

I may sound like a dealer for a second;) but a "Good Deal" is a deal where you drive away feeling good about the transaction, that could be the way you were treated, got great finnance rate, got a great price, etc...

Me personally, I would try and knock about $400 or $500 (start with $500) off the price. You could use persuasion tactics on the salesman such as not knowing if you should buy considering there isn't a lifetime warranty on used, there are alot of miles for an 07. Basically act like all these thoughts you have (make sure you think out loud) are going to make you walk away from the deal. This is alot easier when you aren't at a jeep dealer cuz then you can fudge things like saying stuff like "this is nice but there is a 1k rebate on new patriots".
But at the end of the day the price you were quoted isn't a rip off either. Good luck, hope this helped a little...
ps sometimes if you can't get them to come down in price you can get aftermarkedt stuff out of them, I got a spray in bed liner that way.

I was thinking maybe you can try and get them talked down a few hundred. Have you test drove it yet? The car I had that came from a rental fleet was listed at 14,000 they had a sale, but gave it to me at sale price of 12,000. I put $2000 down, plus a trade in of $210. Normally a car like what I got went for around $20,000 (that style).

a long time 240 volvo has 369K on the clock & still running/
all the best to you ....

I can only imagine how many people gunned the poor little 4 banger. What state are you in? If you're in a state with lots of hills/mountains I'd probably pass being that majority of people that rented that Patriot probably layed on the pedal to get up the hill.

Thanks, but no thanks.

I would not buy a car that I had rented... ;)

Hi

I bought a rental Cherokee Sport in 94':pepper: and I loved it. :latchon:It had 25 000 km on it and it was in mint condition. Get this, I bought it then for $18 000 cdn, I drove it for 3 years, put 75-80 000 km more on it and sold it again for $18 900cdn!! Sweet!:hammertime: Around that time Jeeps started to gain value because in 93' the Grand first popped its head. So one never knows! Does it have some warranty? Sometimes those guys will let you buy an extended. Is the rental company associated with a dealer?

With less than 15k miles, this thing is barely broken-in.

However, I would have someone do a good inspection on the suspension, brakes, engine compartment, fluids, etc.

I bought a used rental Ford Escort (had 56k miles) for my mom, and she's had it for years without problems. When we first bought it, it had a leak but was fixed by the limited warranty.

Our Durango was a rental and has been great for 50K miles. You just have to look it over carefully. I would check to see how much that Patriot sold for new because I think you should be talking in the 14k plus range.

In 2004 I bought a 2003 Toyota Camry for my wife's birthday. Actually she picked out the make and car. She was free to pick whatever she wanted, and liked the Camry. We were looking over new 2004's and then she spied a low mileage 2003 in the yard. It was in pristine condition with 12,000 miles on it and had come from Avis. We did the car search and it came up clean. We now have 35,000 miles on it and it has been virtually trouble free. The only problem was the gas tank lid not opening properly and Toyota fixed it at no cost to us. So, yes, you can find some good deals, but you have to be very careful, especially with all those cars circulating out there from flooded areas of the country. Good luck!
