wow, thanks for the quick reply, It seems like a narrower tire will give you better traction in the snow as well, no? I think I may opt for stormtroopers set up, since he has an 11+ and seems to have no issues.

Do you foresee any issues with the dealership, I can see how they would b*tch about the ODO being off, and the excess wear to the suspension and tranny.

Yes, a narrower tire will give a better snow traction. As far as dealerships, just look at all of those Wranglers rolling on 33s or 35s. Do you think their speedo is calibrated?:D I think a dealer would care less for your speedo being off. The suspension is going to fail regardless of the setup, it's just a matter of time. Once it does, Moog is your friend.

i was saying the odometer being off, because of the 36000 bumper to bumper and 100000 power train... as well as an accurate title if they are going to offer to buy it back to talk you into a new loan or lease.

The_Jeep_Now,

Have you happen to have any trouble with large bumbs on the highway with the extra bit of wheel sticking out? Any major bumb-rub to fenders or even on the inside plastic bits?

They look sharp btw!!

Thanks.

That is so cool ^^

Just ordered a set of Cragars 8s for my FDII Compass, hoping 225/75-16s will fit and look great. Went with DuraTracs, will post pics once everything arrives and installed.

Thumbs up :D

the jeep now... you say yours rub slightly... having an extra inch being s 2012 fdII, your size tire would still rub on my pat because of backspacing, the extra inch height doesnt make a difference, correct?

Correct, the extra 1" wouldn't matter as it rubs on the inner plastic rib that extends towards the tire from the back of the wheel well. It's really not that bad at all. Murman has my old stock 16" steelies on his 2011 with the same size tires and they rub as well.

So I ordered the Cragar 16x7 Soft 8's. They came today (YAAAY!!!!), but what was weird was the order ticket from Discount Tire said they came with the bright center "CRAGAR" caps, but none came in the boxes :(

Are the caps expensive? Well, I guess I'll find out tomorrow on that. Did yours come with caps? Or are you going without? (Question to all Pat people) :)

The caps are sold separately. They're around $8 a piece. When I ordered my wheels, I got a separate box with center caps. When I opened it, there were 12 caps. So I kept four and returned the rest.

All this research into wheels, and I wasn't entirely understanding everything being said... found this nice break down of terms used to describe wheel fitment.

Wheel Offset
Offset is measured from the centerline of the barrel of the wheel to the hub mounting surface. If that hub mounting surface were in the exact center of the barrel of the wheel the offset would be “0". If the mounting surface is away from the center of the wheel the offset is measured in millimeters. There are 25.4 millimeters to an inch. So if the mounting surface is 12mm from the centerline of the wheel it has a 12mm offset. That would also mean that it is about ½ inch. If the mounting surface is moved away from the vehicle that is a positive offset. The picture shows a wheel with the positive offset. A positive offset will cause the wheel to set in or tuck into the vehicle. Originally you found positive offsets on just front wheel vehicles. Due to that some people refer to positive offset wheels as front wheel drive offsets. Currently there are many rear wheel drive cars and trucks with positive offsets. The higher the positive offset the less it sticks out from the vehicle and it will have a higher Backspace. If the mounting surface is moved in toward the vehicle past the centerline, that is a negative offset. A high negative offset will produce a lower Backspace. Once again the measurement in millimeters is how far away from the centerline the mounting surface is. A -24mm offset means that the mounting surface is located 24mm or 1 inch from the centerline toward the vehicle. The wheel will come out farther from the vehicle and will have that deep dish look.

Width
The width of a wheel is measured inside the beads which are usually ½ inches. If you measure on the outside of the beads an 8 inch wheel will measure 9 inches

Backspace
Back spacing is measured from the inner edge of the wheel to the hub mounting surface. It is a convenient measurement in that, as long as the back spacing remains the same, the clearance to the suspension also remains the same. If you know the width of the wheel and the offset you can compute the backspacing. For example if you have an 8 inch wheel with a +24mm offset. An 8 inch wheel is actually 9 inches wide so if the offset were 0 the mounting surface would be right on the centerline and the backspacing would be 4.5 inches. With a positive offset the mounting surface moves off center 24mm or 1 inch toward the outer edge of the wheel. This will make the inner edge go more inside which will result in a 5.5 inch backspacing.

Centerbore
This is the diameter of the center of the wheel. The centerbore must be equal to or larger than the hub of the vehicle for the wheel to seat. If the wheels centerbore is the same as the hub on the wheel then that wheel is hub-centric and uses the hub to center the wheels. If the centerbore is larger than the hub then the lugs will center the wheel and that is lug-centric. When using a lug-centric wheel be sure and snug the lugs up slowly and tighten them in an opposite or star pattern.

Bolt pattern
A bolt pattern of 6x5.5 means it has 6 lugs and if there were a circle through the center of all the lugs the diameter of that circle would be 5.5 inches. On vehicles with an even number of lugs you measure from the center of one lug to the center of the opposite lug.

Hi,
This Patriot is mine.

Wheel specs are 16" on 7. 4.5 on 5 bolt patern.
ET: don't know it anymore ..

Love the tires, the looks, the capability, the noise they make does not bother me at all.

Cheers, Mr Mooze

Center caps/ hub caps are typically based on the wheel you have. But I know Carlile/Cragars/Black Rock/ Unique 16x7s have a 3.300 bore. You could go to any discount tire and pick some caps up

So I am so excited!! Sitting at Discount Tire right now waiting for them to finally put on my DuraTracs for the Compass!! I have some before shots and I'll be sure to post some after shots!

A note: There are some people who seem to have the impression that you cannon use the factory TPMS sensors with these wheels, and that is completely false! Any reputable tire shop should be able to manage just fine.

Can't wait to test them out in some snow this weekend!!
