Hello everyone , i'm new to the forum and have a question . I had a 2011 Jeep Patriot which i traded in with 24k miles because i had tire cupping issues on the front and rear. The tires were rotated every 5k miles but it didn't seem to make a difference , the dealer said it was probably because of the cheap Firestone tires that came with it . Fast forward to June 2013 , i bought a new Patriot with the 6 spd tranny and was told Jeep had the tire issues under control and this should be better . This vehicle has 4,200 miles on it and already the drivers side front is feather edging , i'm getting the tires roataed this week . Has anyone else had the same issues and what have you had done about it to correct the problem . The 2011 Jeep had a wheel alignment but they told me e verything was in spec . Getting frustrated . Thanks in advance for any input

Would you consider yourself an "Aggressive Driver"? If so, you might be wearing out the edge of your tires prematurely. I've had a Goodyear service manager tell me that driving like that can wear down the edges of your tires. Seeing that the 2011 had the same issues makes me wonder if that could be the cause.

I agree that the Firestones are not very good tires at all. Have you discussed having them switched out for a different brand to see if that corrects the problem? If it happens again with a different brand, and everything is still is spec with alignment, then perhaps its driving habit like AIC mentioned.

I have had the issues and I am by far from an aggressive driver. I just got new tires. I will see if it happens with these. I also got an alignment just to make sure everything was good. I will update later about the condition of the tires.

Definetly not an aggressive driver , my wife primarily uses this to go to work . I spoke with the service manager today and he said they have had some issues with the Patriots and Compass. I guess i'll just make sure to rotate the tires around every 4k and see if that makes a difference . Does anyone have any preference on tires?

Up where I live, the Yokohama Geolandar is the ultimate. Have to get a set before snow hits. We don't get a ton but it's soupy and then freezes.

We get some cupping on all three of our rigs (Pat, Challenger and an older Chevy Z71 4x4) just due to the twisty, rough chip-sealed and steep roads we drive, every day. I like to think that I don't drive aggressively but fact is, when you go up and down the same twisty road everyday, it becomes automatic to know how fast you can safely go, where every bump, dip and groove is and you have every corner memorized. I know that's the culprit with my tire issues, not the rigs causing it.....and now the little Pat handles so dang well for a 4x4....it's tough not to have a little fun.

geolanders all the way

I have Yokos right now and happy with their performance but thinking of trying Toyo Open Country ATII next time as reviews are the same if not better than Yokos. Wonder if any Patriot owners have those and can provide some feedback.

never rotated tires on mine, just switched front to rear whenever changing from summer to winter tires.
never had issues.

Thanks guys , i spoke with a Jeep rep yesterday and was told to call Firestone because they have a 12k warranty , i told the rep that's unheard of so if that's the case it's probably due to cheap tires just to cut costs a little more . Just another way for corporate america to fill their pockets a little more and let the little guy foot the bill! i'll try the geolanders when these finally get loud enough and i can't stand it any longer . Happy Trails

The tires on my 2014 Patriot are the Affinity , i had them rotated today and the service manager said they have a 12k free replacement but he thought they had a 40 k treadwear warranty , i must have misunderstood the Jeep rep . We'll see how it goes , was told to keep the receipts and if they continue to cup they'll get the factory rep involved . Almost sounds like the alignment should be checked.
