Just dropped my 2011 2.0 gas off at the dealer to get the recall fixed.
They are telling me at 30k I need to have a tune up. I don't remember ever seeing that in the manual. Is this dealer pullin some **** or does these need tune ups before 100k.

I would not ever have a dealer do it but I was shocked. To be told that
Just an FYI. It was seaview jeep in ocean nj

They are correct Sir. but all they are going to do is replace 4 spark plugs, with a parts cost between $6 and $12. And there are a couple posts here to tell you how, and easy enough to do yourself.

My Tracker has the 100K mile plugs, I've changed them twice at over 215K miles on the clock

just look maintenance shedule and you will see what you need,
30k just plugs oil/filter, other parts should be looked at,
talking maybe $100 worth of service
but most dealers with have their own items include at the service intervals which jack the price up from $100 to over $300
just about all dealers do it,
best to see what is needed then decide whether to do it yourself? have local mechanic do it? or dealer do it?

Surprised

Wow. I'm taken back that it needs plugs at 30k The pat replaced a 02 escape and that didn't need them till 100k. Thanks for the info guys. I was at a loss I don't have the manual to cross reference it

I tol them I would take care of it. They wanted 200 bucks to do it

Not sure why you are taken aback with a 30K plug change interval? The Patriot uses standard Copper core plugs. Nothing unusual about a 30K change interval. That is pretty standard for Copper plugs. Vehicles with 75-100K plug change intervals use Platinum and Iridium plugs that are capable of that longer service. The Escapes in 2002 used Platinum plugs OE in both the 4 and 6 cyl engines which is why they had a longer change interval.

Go grab some NGK V-Power ZFR5F-11 plugs. They are the OEM plugs for the Patriot and are an excellent plug to keep using. Will cost about $2-$2.50 each at a parts store vs $4-$5 each at the dealer for the same thing.

It's about $20 (or less...) to buy the plugs. And you probably already have the correct socket--if not you can get one at the same time as you buy the plugs. Less than 20 minutes and you've saved $80--take the significant other for a nice dinner!
