Well y'all....

With the holiday weekend we spent some time hauling some friends around this weekend so far and I must say it wasn't fun. By the time you fit four adults, infant car seat, and stroller there wasn't much cargo space left. Getting them from the airport was tight!!

This lead my wife to realize she'd like a larger SUV, so we made a phone call and purchased a leftover grand cherokee trailhawk with the 5.7L! The patriot was a great car for us to in the early stages of family life, but it was time for a size increase. Hopefully we'll pick it up next weekend. :D

Sometimes I think about upgrading to a GC--for the space, but I'm not sure I want to spend that much for gas...so...what is the conservative MPG of a 5.7 Hemi?

Congrats! Not sure I'd consider GC much bigger. Quick compare on jeep.com and interior numbers are not much different between the two. Hemi power is always nice :D
We stopped by the dealer and was able to throw the stroller and a ton more back there. The carseat fit better on the seats also. Very surprising to hear.

As far as mileage goes. Sticker is 13 / 20 so anywhere in there. Most estimates look like 17-18 on forums. If you put it in sport mode they do better apparently.

Good luck getting that kind of MPG out of a 5.7L in the GC unless you mean highway. The HEMI is a gas hog no matter what vehicle it is in. Well, does ok in the cars. I have also found over my years spent on various Dodge truck/suv and HEMI forums that the members seem to really lie and exaggerate their MPG #'s in a big way. 17-18MPG average is more realistic for the 3.6L Pentastar.

Good luck with it though. I would love to move up to a GC or a Durango for more interior room but the MPG, even with the 3.6L, is just too bad. Especially when you figure in the high cost of the vehicle which = high payments. Gas is going to just go up and up and up. That is why my HEMI Ram is gone. My monthly payment and gas bill for the Patriot is less than just the payment on the Ram.

We got silver. It's a left over so we weren't picky.

As far as MPG not really a concern. My wife and I gave up debt so we'll just be writing a check. After the trades won't be to bad.

I love the GC trailhawk! thats my dream jeep! congrats on the new ride

my mom had the 5.7 in her GC and she usually pulled about 14 or 15 combined mpg

I just got a different car seat and a smaller stroller. Was cheaper that way lol. Plenty of room with an extended rear facing toddler :)
I think that's the funniest part of all this! We do NOT have any of this... Yet.... We just are at that point that friends and family do and we will soon.

Numbers are still being finalized, but we didn't start talking until the GC base price was $10K off of MSRP. This is a great deal that was to hard pass up.

Got her picked up last weekend and figured I'd post some pics. If anyone is looking for a low mileage 2012 fully loaded (every option) FDII Limited let me know. It was rescue green with the tan interior. I'm not sure what they have it priced at yet.
