OK folks a Little Caliber Trick That most of us tried with various result!!! It worked for me ---Faster Accelleration, Better Economy,No Bogging down & stumbling away from the lights. This is only for 2litre & 2.4 Gas with CVT.We discussed this at length on Caliber ForumZ, These cars leave the plant with Engine computer management set for average acceleration , Average MPG & Average Joe Public driver!!!

Turn on Ignition, Depress Accelerator pedal very slowley to the floor, Let pedal come very slowley back up again. You have now re set the Electronic Engine Management Unit... It will now start to learn the way YOU want to drive the Car...Not the previous owner or the factory settings...

Oh yea when pedal has returned to the Top --Turn IGN. Off & just give it a minute before re starting. Give it a try folks , I'd be interested to hear results!!!:smiley_thumbs_up:

Yep may work on Manual trans but I cant remember results!!! Sorry just turn Ign on & leave for about 10 secs before firing up. Dont turn engine on whilst depressing--just Ign on!!

Dude, you procedure is a bit sketchy  I tried it earlier today, but with the ignition ON.
Ignition on actually means firing up the engine. Ok, so you're saying only electronics on. Got it.

Then you said to floor the pedal and the let it go, slowly - how slow? Then you said to wait a minute and then turn the ignition on, but in this post, you say to wait 10 secs.

Can you clarify your procedure?

Thanks for the tip!

The Only thing I know is that it worked for me on my Caliber with quite amazing results!!! The only other trick I know is if you do the same trick , but slowly pump the pedal 3 times it re-sets the Oil change service indicator.

i am the first owner/driver of my mine I never noticed sluggishness. I rarely dog it but I got on it once and it seemed very responsive to me. 25mpg average by the evic. last fill up manually caculating the mpg I got 26. maybe many of the issues were fixed in the 09's mine has an october 08 build date.

How slow? 10 count? 20 count?

I know getting the seat belt chime to shut off was a real test of my dexterity. I forget the sequence, but it was something like ignition on, connect and disconnect the seat belt 3 times in 22.5 seconds, then do a Chinese fire drill with 2 dogs and a kid then click your heals together while turning the ignition back off. ;)

Tiptronic,

Great post for the tip! I think as you read through the thread with people's questions, you just got a crash course in Training and Development. I had to actually pay for those courses :-(

I take it if I don't have an issue, I shouldn't try this tip? I can't wait to hear the results :)

Ok Lets Try again & Clarify a little--- Turn key , but dont fire engine, wait for any lights that are going to go out-go out. Depress Acc. pedal to flow to the count of 10...Release pedal back up to count of 10. Turn off Key...Wait for 1 minute , & start car as normal-- Go for drive & see if you can see any improvement in smoothness of Acceleration & CVT operation. I did this just once about 8 months ago & noticed good improvement in all areas. I also noticed an improvement in MPG as the Accelerator movement was smoother & I did not need to push pedal down so far to maintain speed....

Somebody mentioned this on the forum quite some time ago. I tried it but with little luck. Perhaps I just pushed down or released the gas pedal too quickly? I might have to give it another shot.

The electronics in modern cars are very strange sometimes. I'm surprised you don't need to click your heels together 3 times and say: "there's no place like home" first. I've heard you should be very careful... if you don't count to 10. It will engage the self-destruct mode.

But this trick lowered my highway mpg,s by about 500 rpm,s
Your car probably thought you wanted plenty of power available for acceleration at highway speed. Since you did the reset, your car has learned that you are going to go a little easier on the accelerator now.

The Diesel engine is not VVT 16 v& the whole comp. controll electrics are different--So although I am about to take delivery of Diesel Patriot , I really have no information on wether it works on this engine----I'll try & do a little reasearch.

Well I gave this a go and it worked!! I noticed a substantial difference in the amount of acceleration needed and the transmission did actually seem a lot smoother...
So I have two questions about this 'mod':
1. Can you do this as many times as you want?
and...
2. If for example you reset the chip and then go for a drive like a lead-foot, I am assuming it will increase your fuel consumption but also your performance as it can tell you want more power?

Cheers and thanks heaps for the tip!! :D

I did this to my Caliber 8 months ago, & havnt done it since--- I feel I dont need to . However you drive now , A bit of fast, A bit of slow , Up hills , Down hills , your pute is learning how YOU drive in any given situation. If you want to RE-set once a Month or Once a Year that will be up to you.....But once its done & you are happy , Why bother??? Yea one thing I noticed Rolex. Was smoother CVT uptake!!!

Ok.. so i thought I noticed a difference immediately the other night after doing this..in fact I am fairly sure it did make some adjustments to smooth out the CVT jerk you get from gassing after a slow down in the 15-25 mph range. However this morning it seemed back to it's old ways.. Can't be sure if I was just feeling a placebo effect or not. I would love to hear more feedback
