Hello. I have a 2011 Patriot and I'd like to know if anyone has any experience with bike racks that can mount on the back of a Patriot and what are the advantages/disadvantages to different models. Ideally, I'd like it to hold up to 4 mountain bikes, but if not, at least 2. I'm sure this has been discussed a million times and I'm sure I could easily look it up, but I'm a bit pressed for time and I would like to know personal choices some of you might have. Thanks a lot.

hitch mounted.
best of anything.
roof ones make it difficult because the pat is quite high.
tailgate ones leave marks on the paint and are not practical as you can't lift the gate after installation.
i have a thule hitch one and it is fantastic.

Tailgate mounted=no

in-laws gave us one, I could not figure out how to put it on, and I gave up because it was clearly going to scratch the #$^#$%& out the paint.

Hitch mounted is the way. If you don't have a hitch like me...buy one, I am going to, its a versatile component, even if you aren't towing. bike racks, baskets aux bumper guards, etc.

I agree with the other poster's: if you have a hitch, get a hitch-mounted rack. I put on a Mopar hitch to mount a Yakima Holdup 2-bike rack. If you want to carry 4 bikes you'll need a 2-inch receiver:
