Hi All, Side rails blew off and lost a very expensive Windsurfing board and carbon mast. Thankfully no one was injured. The entire roof sheet metal parted from the mounting stanchions. The cross bars got sucked off. It was not the fault of the Thule cross bars or the mounting straps, which were new Thule also. It was the rear portion of the racks meaning the front of the board leveraged the front bar and pulled the rear mounts off. I have plans to reinforce that area with flat washers and buy new stanchions.
The rack was not overloaded. Windsurfing boards are styrofoam, glass and carbon fiber with ceramic additive. Very stiff. I watched in horror as rush hour traffic made dust out of it.
