Roof Rack SEMA style

If anyone is interested, Tactical Armor Group is willing to design and build a roof rack as close in appearance to the orange SEMA show Patriot version with integrated lights.
It will be made of light gauge steel or aluminuto combination of both to keep the weight down to a minimum.
NOT PLASTIC

The catch:
They need a donor vehicle to build the prototype from for about 2 to 3 weeks for R&D.

The benefit:
You'd get a free roof rack out of the deal. You'd be the 1st on the planet to have one!

They need to know how many people are interested before they'd start though. Just on here is a good start.
Can I get a show of hands please?

/me raises hand

I have been waiting for someone to make something like this.

I also like TAG's bumpers (but don't have the $$ or time to get it shipped/installed and then nowhere to put the OEM bumpers) so I'd definitely be interested in a SEMA roof rack.

Hopefully we have some members closer to TAG that could lend them their Jeep. I would love to, but it's quite a trek and quite a bit of time to take the Jeep out of service.

I wish I lived in GA I'd love a free roof rack out of it. Depending on the price I'd definitely be interested at some point most certainly! Wicked pumped that their so nice to do this for the Pat owners.

That roof rack just simply makes the whole vehicle, it adds that tough look that a lot of people are looking for but haven't been able to have access to hopefully up until now.

A free roof rack and a prototype for the rest of us isnt a bad idea and everyone would be very grateful for your contribution into making more of these!

Ok do here's the latest....
The existing Patriot SEMA rack is injection molded plastics as other light-weight composites.
TAG manufactures using metal materials. Primarily aluminum or steel. Because of that if we want almost a duplicate of the SEMA rack it's going to end up costing around $1200-1500 on the low end. Injection moldering is a much cheaper method but not their world.

With that in mind, what would you be willing to pay for a SEMA look?

2nd option, they can make a really awesome alternative that is much less expensive to fabricate. Round or square tubing, aero-dynamic front end, and light mounts in front and optional all the way around. Size at Full length of the vehicle.
Aiming to keep the cost around $500.

Now what's everyone interested in?

I'm down for the second option as much as I love the actual SEMA version. That's much cheaper and affordable.

I would be interested in option two provided it has a full length roof rack, an air foil in the front and have the capability of mounting my canoe to the front and rear bars of the rack. I'm wondering how the front part of the rack would attach to the vehicle and if all the factory bar mounting points would be used

I would love the actual sema style rack but not for 1200-1500 that's a bit much but I understand it's cause of the materials they work with. 500 is at the high end of what I may be willing to pay but 300 is the preferred. Now with this in mind does anyone know of a plastic molding company that they may think would be interested in working with us. Or if anyone has any ideas on a company that does this, connections in anyway?

I think 500 would be a little out of my price range as a college student.

I emailed a local injection plastic shop to ask about it, I will also look for more around my area to check and see.
Edit: Well 2 strikes. First company went out of business or their email has been shut down permanently. And the second company said the project was too big.
As always, I will keep looking.
Edit2: Everyone says this project is "too big" at least down here in Florida around me.

I'm out of Houston, Tx and there are several around. However you are correct, it's HUGE. The first expense is developing the shape in a CAD system then a CNC mill must make a mold (the tooling) for the parts. That process for the tooling alone will be in the $10's of thousands. It's not cheap by any means. Once made it will produce multiple parts inexpensive as required. But to recover the tooling costs, the price is going to start off high or need a contract to make thousands as an auto-maker would do.
Now you see why there aren't many options for the Patriot. The economy side of the vehicle prohibits a huge demand unlike the Wrangler or Silverado owners.
Anyway, check out:

They don't have one specific to the Patriot and nothing fancy either. But they are an option if you know what size ur looking for.
But no one selling universal racks can come anywhere close to $300 but $500 and up most certainly.
Again, nothing snazzy like the SEMA rack.

Only time will tell......

^ Nothing too intriguing there in regards to full length (or close to it) roof racks. Just a lot of stuff for Wranglers and FJ's. Expensive racks at that. Might as well just buy a Yakima or Thule for cheaper than that. Just sayin.

If y'all want a rack to look mostly like the SEMA model, its going to be pricey. And more than likely its going to weigh quite a bit. Beggars can't be choosers as they.
