I have the Mopar cross bars and just ordered a Thule Basket. The factory cross bars just have the "Thumbscrews" that ANYBODY could remove and steal the whole system.

What did you guys/gals do? I was thinking of changing out the thumbscrews, or perhaps a cable lock?

What's YOUR solution?

I have a surco rack but it has built in locks. But when i have my high lift jack on or shovel, axe i just use a bike lock.
I would just get a bike lock. If someone wants your stuff they'll get it. I would also buy it a Walmart because you can test fit and return it if you dont like the fit.

Seven or eight footer, I don't recall. Just wrap a tape around and give yourself an extra foot. Mine tapes 3.5 feet each way. Bike lock may be fine but it's gonna rattle or ding your paint. The rubber-coated cable lock zip-ties up and out of the way. No wind whistle that way either.

Havent ppl with the thumbscrews changed them out for m8 bolts with allan key heads? Its a bit of a help not much tho...

My spare tire locks down on top of the rack to crossbars mounts, without getting at those the most anyone can do to mine is loosen it. They wouldnt have the room to wiggle everything apart without having to cut either rack or bars. Whos gonna steal something they have to completely wreck to steal in the first place? But if they cant steal it maybe they would still wreck it, I dunno.

Oh and my spare tire lock was only 20 or 30 bucks. So I'm happy with it. I'll try remember when i get back to the laptop to look back and see if I can find a part name.

The basket is cable-locked to the rails, hence the cross-bars can't be removed because the basket is cinched to the cross bars by the cable lock. As said however, a thief with a saws all or grinder can still get them, or anything for that matter.

I am so lucky I live where I do. the only thing getting ripped off are LED bars. everything else is left as is.
