Rear toe links?

'09 Patriot Sport with 12,000 miles (wifes' vehicle) -

Was told by my dealership that the rear toe links are rusted and should be replaced and that I should have an alignment after that. I can believe the rust part since I live in Central NY State and deal with the winters and obligatory road salt.
I'm guessing that the toe links are part of the rear suspension? Just what do they do and is it important to replace them? Is an alignment required after replacing them?
Dealership wants $488. + tax to do the links and alignment.

Thanks for any feedback you can offer

Toe is the biggest thing to worry about with suspension. If your toe is off, your tires will wear much MUCH faster. I'd get an opinion at another shop not a dealership just to see what they say and get a quote. Dealerships aren't known for the cheapest servicing.

Wait? an 09 with 12,000 miles!? I just brought my '13 pat in and the dealership is replacing a bunch of rear suspension components under warranty(32k miles). They said my stuff is all corroded too. That makes a whole wiring harness and my rear suspension under warranty, from corrosion...Upper Wisconsin must use depleted uranium as road salt or something:(

I would get it done elsewhere
Parts should be under $100
$388 for labor is outrageous
I paid $350 labor to redo entire back suspension
Upper, lower, lateral and toe links plus front control arm.
For alignment, depending on work, some can eyeball it and get it close to spec
