Rear Suspension Creaking Noises

My 08 has been making squeaking/creaking noises from the rear, mostly when I drive on rough roads and when people get in and out of the back seat. I'm guessing the rear suspension is going bad...Anyone else have this problem, and what parts need to be replaced?

My 2010 just started a few days ago. 15,000 miles on it :(

Yep - me too, and it's driving me nuts. My 2010 started creaking a couple of months ago. Had it at the dealer 2 weeks ago; they said everything was tight, and lubed all the bushings. Didn't help a bit. The creaking got worse when it was really hot outside (around 90F). Turning up the volume on the music takes care of it for now, until whatever is making the noise fails outright. :(

Yeah,

one of the reasons I bailed. I put alot of kms on my rigs. it was eating rear bits like candy.

another place for noise/clunking is the tilt steering column. not sure if this is some of the problems people feel in the wheel, I diagnosed this after being in the shop 4 times with the Feeling of front suspension problems. lock the wheel and hit it and it will clunk and rattle, unlock and do the same thing and its gone.

grinding sound from rear

My 2010 Patriot started this creaking/grinding sound in the rear about a month ago. The dealer replaced the rear toe links, and It did not correct issue. It goes back to the dealer in Sept to have them try again. I won't live with the creaking noise, if they can't correct it I will get rid of the vehicle.

my advice:
grease up anything tht you can.
it makes a difference.
i installed greasable ball joints(moog),tie rod ends (moog),sway bar bushings (energysuspension parts),and used copper grease spray for almost every joint i could find under the body.
i have had no squeaking, creaking or any other eaking since.

Try shooting some WD40 on the rubber spring isolators.

If you have some heavy stuff in the back on the plastic cover over the spare tire it will creak when you turn and such, sounding like the suspension is creaking. Not saying that is what you all are experiencing, but worth taking anything you have sitting in the back if you do and trying it.

Has anyone narrowed down the cause of this? My wifes patriot creaks like rusty hinge in a horror movie. If I drop a bag of clothes in the back seat it noticeably creaks a bit. I bounce on the bumper and it plays music. Just wondering if anyone can save me some time and money by narrowing it down before I tear into it. I was able to move the vehicle with my hand while squatting and looking into the wheel well and the noise seems to be coming from above the tire. It is the right rear side only.

I'm experiencing the same creaking with my '08 at just under 40,000 miles. The back-end creaks when going over bumps or turning around corners. I've tried pushing up and down on the bumper to see if I can replicate the sound to locate it, but am having no luck.

It started last summer, but wasn't as bad during the winter months. It is odd that it seems to be a warm weather problem, as other people have noted.

Could be lots of things, worn out shocks, worn out bushings, dirt in bushings/shocks, lose shocks/bushings, (get the drift? its either the shocks or the bushings) I would go around with some sorth of spray grease, and spray all the bushings and see if that clears it up. I had this in my front end after a big trip on a dirt road, but drove a bit and it cleared up as the dust got worked out.

same things happening to me after two days of pretty decent offroading and mudding, tomorrow I will give my Pat a serious cleaning and lubing just about everything underneath it, if that doesn't sort it out, to the dealer I go.

Not sure if its the same thing/noise, but on my 2012, I noticed a sound/squeeking type noise coming from what sounded like the back left of my Patriot, when going over speed bumps, pot holes, etc. It turned out to be from the plastic lower cladding on the bottom of the left rear passenger door. One of the plastic rivets was kinda loose, and the cladding was making the noise. Once I secured the rivet, the noise stopped. It did sound to me as if it was the suspension at first. I believed the lower cladding pieces are the same on the pre 2011 Patriots as on the current ones.

Hey guys. I have the cause of your squeaking (More than likely).... It’s not suspension at all. It’s actually the hand break cable that runs to the rear wheels. Mine did the same thing, squeaked every time I was driving a low speeds. ESPECIALLY PARKING LOTS. I played around under my jeep for a while and found that it is where the cable is clamped to the undercarriage. The clamp is under the rear driver’s side seat area only on the underside of the car. Not actually under the seat. You’ll see the bolt and the cable. Just loosen the bolt so it has some wiggle room and everything will be fixed. Jeep service stations will also fix it for you by re-routing the cable. Good luck.

That might be the solution for the low speed squeak related to the parking brake but they are several other sounds
-Low speed Parking brake squeak.
-Metal tubing clanking over speed bumps and rumble strips sound (could be transmission, hydraulic or a/c tubes touching the frame.
-Clunk on front suspension over speed bumps (sway bar bushings, toe links)
-Rubber stretching squeaking in front suspension that only comes in hot days. (Rubber Bushings expanding with heat)

I'm so sick of all the different noises

The squeaking/creaking doesn't have to be from a failed part, I have had to deal with this issue a lot, sure it could be the shocks/toe link bushings, and 4 hours labour is way to high, it's .5 of an hour per side, plus alignment... But I've had that noise come from the parking brake cable boots in the rear and also the lower control arm bushings they make severe creaking noise when the bushing gets dried up

How about this...

Mine makes a metal on metal high pitched squeal/creak whatever but only when the vehicle is off, in park and when I'm getting out of it. I'm 5'9" and weigh 205 pounds, so not like I am huge or anything...

Just stared a few months ago after the entire front suspension was replaced...

It should be covered. If you have a good warrenty is will be covered. As I said before, there is a service bulletin out for it. On jeeppatiot.com quick search "service bulletins".. youll find a list of them. Find the one about the creaking in the rear due to the hand break cable. Print it off and take it in to the shop. Theyll take it from there

I have the same issue with my 2011 Patriot Limited. As mentioned my issues have been with the toe links. They replaced them at about 40k and it fixed the issue. After another 30k the squeaking issue started again. They replaced the right rear toe link under warranty and the car is going in to have the left rear done this Friday.
