Hi,

I would like to know if it is possible to move the spare tire from the trunk to the Patriot rooftop? If yes, will there be disadvantages for doing so?

I want more space in the trunk, so I come up with this idea :p

Thanks
Alex

I bought the Mopar Accessory Crossbars and installed their Roof Basket on my Compass. My plan was to move the spare to the roof to free up some more inside storage.

Down side would be during the winter, the spare might get FROZEN to the basket, making it kind of tough to change a flat.

If I still had my Compass, I'd do it anyway.......:smiley_thumbs_up:

I don't know that I'd be wanting to have all that extra weight bouncing around on the roof, stressing the seams. I don't have any roof leaks now, and I prefer my showers in the house...

I have a full size spare on the roof with a matching aftermarket rim. No problems to speak of, except that I have noticed less MPG, but since I get paid for my mileage, I could care less.

Well, you could spend $35 million and get the new Kennesaw rear bumper with tire carrier. ;-/ I know, I'm a total downer...

You are talking about the effects on mileage, is it a big one? I mean, I'm doing about 10l/100km at the moment, would it change to something like 12/13l/100km or more like 17/18l/100km?

In the case of a drastic change, I could just put the extra load on the top instead of permanently fixing the spare on the rooftop.. but it wouldn't look as cool ;)

so, after reading all the comments, it seems like I'm not the only one that have/had this idea. So, to put the spare on the roof, there is no modification required other than adding a roof rack, right?
