Saw an 08 undercarriage/crossmember that scared me. then I saw another member post a picture from under his jeep that looked awesome (think his name was secrets07?)

So my question is, what do you guys do to protect our riot's? I don't have access to a lift, just some ramps and jacks

Spray everything with Fluid Film!

I bet the nice undercarriage was from Metaxa, who turned me on to Fluid Film.

Also spray everything under the hood, especially the fuse boxes.

Yes.

After three years I can unequivocally say Fluid Film works...and works well.

I apply the undercarriage spray yearly. We no longer use rattle cans for that, rather we had a local auto parts jobber (like NAPA but independent shop) bring in gallon cans. There are larger pails of it but the jobber didn't want to get stuck with those...

So, shake the bejabbers out of the can, load up a slightly modified Schutt gun (I think that is what it is called) and simply hose the entire undercarriage down, from all angles and it doesn't matter where or what you spray. We do that in the fall. just before winter hits.

Further I use rattle cans each and every time I'm into or detailing the Patriot, year round. Every oil change, every tire rotation, any time its on a hoist or the hood is open.

hinges, strut tower bolts, hubs, any and all moving suspension parts, any and all bushings, seals etc. Just a spritz.

I pop my door and hatch panels, pop the inner fender liners and spray away. I even wiped down my visible metal when I swapped my radio for a Pioneer.

It works.

That would be mine :( I have owned the jeep for 9 months and this was the first time i have looked under it or had the rear tires off :( guess i should have looked it over better at time of purchase.

is this fluid film better then undercoat? bc there isnt much in price difference. and id have to order the fluid film online bc local parts store doesn't carry it

FF won't dry like an undercoat and won't trap any moisture underneath since it stays wet and will creep into untreated areas.

You should be able to find it at John Deere dealers, some Autozone and Napa stores carry it, as well as Grainger.

What festerw said...undercoating, certainly the hard shell ones can, if not maintained well, actually promote rust. One stone chip and you have a hole into which moisture will creep and it will...hidden, doing its work.

Fluid Film (and other spray on oil based rust proofers) all displace moisture, do not harden up and simply (within reason) repair themselves after a stone hit or a scrape along a log or whatever.

My undercarriage spray lasts a year with touch ups. When I spritz my hub bolts they are still well wetted with Fluid Film at the next rotation.

I like Fluid Film because there is no hydrocarbons in it, only the propellant. It is a lanolin (sheep squeezings) based product so it doesn't harm natural or synthetic rubber, paint, glass...anything else.

Plus super easy to DIY...
