Still considering purchasing a 2011 or 2012 Patriot Limited (2.4L, 4X4, 5 speed manual), and interested to know what kind of real world fuel consumption you guys are getting.

"Official" figures are 9.2 L/100km city and 7.2 L/100km highway for this configuration.

So... what are your experiences?

23 MPG's here in the states. I got it up to 26 MPGs on the highway at 70+ MPH. I got a 2.4 CRD and a Automatic CRV 4x4

You can get 32MPG on the highway.

More impressive is that you can get 22-24 in town if you are careful about accelerating and selecting gears.

Getting just shy of 25 mpgs in my 2010 4x4 with 2.4 engine and CVT trans, approx 30% city, 70% hwy. The 2011s and newer are a bit more aerodynamic so they get a bit better mpgs. Plus if you are considering the manual I think they get even better mpgs.

30.3 the best, 23.6 the worst.

robi454, where were you able to get a Pat CRD in the states--or did you hop across the border to get it? How difficult would that be? I'm just across the border from Windsor ON....

Our 5 speed MT frequently gets 30 mpg U.S. or 7.8 L/100 km on the highway. The dealers in Canada are fond of quoting mileage figures in Imperial Gallons like the U.K. but we haven't really had any Imperial Gallons since the Trudeau era.

Kind of tough to compare when everyone is using different methods: litres, US gallons, imperial gallons.

We should have a rule, eh?
(everyone do it my way!)

I'm old and have never bothered to figure out the l/km thing so I convert.
Also, I'm not concerned about the difference between highway and city so I just do it as overall. I drive a highway, city "route" each day so overall works best for me.

Anyway, with 3,000 km on the clock I'm at 30.4 mpg Imperial as of last fill.
Mixed driving in a 2011 2.3 4x2 CVT.

I'm OK with that.

If you click on my Fuelly Sig, in the upper left corner of the page you can choose the format you want to display, so that way it converts to to whatever you are used to. In imperial gallons, my last Sunday drive I got 30 MPG in my FDII :pepper: I should use those more often ;)

Misleading fuel rating

I bought a 2011 AWD Patriot for its manual transmission, manual windows and locking as well as a nice, flat roof for loading a canoe. However the main reason was that I foolishly believed the Canadian Govt Energy Fuel rating guide, 7.2l/100km highway, 9.2l/100km) whic figures were also quoted to me by the dealer. Most of my driving is highway (85%) but even with careful attention to RPM I have not been able to better 10litres/100km. I am told by the dealer that snow tires and cold temperatures account for the difference. But I believe that I will probably only hit the promised figures driving in 5th at 80km/h on a perfectly flat surface with perfectly smooth tires, temperature 20C and no wind resistance! Hmn!

Drove back from Boston last week and I did 556 km before the fuel light lit up! Did average 108km/hr. Got 15000k on it now. It's improving.

A lot of the MPG numbers given for Patriots are for the FWD only models, with the 2.0 engine.

I know mine is a lot lower with the 2.4 and lower off road gearing. Still much better than other 4x4's that are as capable.

I do find myself wondering if I can gewt by without the FDII for my next Pat in order to gain a couple MPGs. I drive at least 25,000 miles a year. so a few MPG can make a difference for me in monthly bills.
