Here is the brushguard from the You Tube video. It is made especially for the Patriot and is available from a company called Smart Technique in Mexico City. He has a secure Paypal account and wanted me to post these pics for anyone interested in buying one. It comes with the 2 foglamps and he said they wire into the OEM foglight setup. Guard comes with all necessary mounting hardware. He quoted me $540 USD shipped to Arizona. Let me know if anyone is interested and I'll post all of his contact info. He has been very quick with his responses making getting info quick easy.

Ollie, I'll ask him for a side shot, he should have one. I'll ask how he plans on shipping the guard, UPS, DHL, FedX...He doesn't have a website but the Paypal acct. does ease some of my initial concerns. His e-mails have been VERY understanding and helpful with my concerns about buying from out of the country, meaning Mexico. I didn't want to insult him or sound distrustful and he completely understood.
Mclovin, I too am VERY interested in buying the guard, it looks incredible. I'll even ask him if there may be wiggle room on the price if a few of us buy from him. Kind of a Patriot Forum discount? Who knows?
Last bit of info was he had his electrical guy hook up the foglights for him. He doesn't have a wiring harness for it but said he would include instructions on how to wire to the OEM foglights. He said he will be sending me more photos of the install and how the foglights work. Like I said the guy has been really helpful, better than most 4X4 companys out here. I'll post whatever I find out. Let me know who is serious about buying this that way we can possibly make a case for lowering the cost, not that I think it's priced bad.

I e-mailed him about what it's made of, I expect to hear back tomorrow. As far as the price is concerned, I don't think it's unreasonable. $540 for the brush guard, two fog lights and shipping. I've seen foglights alone go for $200 - $300. I did ask about a lower price if "several" orders were placed. He probably would need more than just a couple of orders to justify a discount.

Ollie, good point however my wife is always buying items online from foreign countries and never has to pay duty. I myself have ordered quite a bit of vintage Ducati parts from Australia and never encountered it either. The U.S Customs rule is exemption on items up to $400 and above that if the item is manufactured in Mexico which the brushguard is, so I think it's fine. Plus his flat fee probably includes all applicable fees. I'll ask him to be sure.

He doesn't have a website and has said the brushguard is specifically for the Patriot. I don't know how similar the front end of a Compass and Patriot are. The brush guard is made of aluminum and stainless steel. I don't know about the weight but if he already is using it and it looks great I don't see a problem there but I'll ask. He is sending me more photos to post and is fully aware of other's interest in buying from him. He has offered passport information and residence receipts with his address to ease anyone's apprehension dealing with him in Mexico. He has a 4X4 shop called Smart Technique in Mexico City and has a %100 secure Paypal account. I personally am not worried...if there was a problem the transaction is covered by Paypal and I could simply reverse the charges, done! I'm waiting to get detailed shipping costs from him to AZ right now. I also asked about any possible duty fees so he's checking.

More photos on the way... He said he could do $410 USD for the brush guard and free fog lights EXCLUDING shipping. He's working on the cheapest way to ship to me. I suggested shipping to Nogales, Mexico and I can drive to Tucson (my inlaws live there), go across the border and pick it up. He liked that idea and said it would be cheaper. I don't know who out there is within close proximity to the U.S./Mexico border but this seems to be the best and cheapest way. He can ship to the U.S. but it becomes more expensive due to the size of the brush guard being shipped. Very helpful guy, I can't wait to place my order! With the Paypal account there is no problem of a bad transaction. I'll post the new photos when I get them.

This thing is bada55!

And Jeepster, he who drives a Compass shouldn't throw...ah, never mind, I call mine a car. But I don't care what anyone calls it. Now, back on topic:

This brushguard is cool. I'd like to see a pic of the mounting points to get a sense of how it might be installed. Really nice. And I don't mind paying a guy in Mexico a decent price--why shouldn't he make a decent living?

Drenglish, I agree! Just because he's in Mexico doesn't mean it MUST be cheap. I think what he's charging is fair, especially since it's the ONLY brushguard out there for a Patriot.
UN4GTBL, I didn't mean to imply Paypal is infallible. Any online transaction has risks but so does dealing face to face with someone. Hell, I've had mechanics rip me off more than once and I had the charges reversed. Just because he's out of the country, in Mexico to be specific, doesn't automatically mean he's dishonest. I think he is going out of his way to show good faith. To be honest if someone was this suspicious of me I'd tell them to shove it and I'd sell to someone else. I'm NOT attacking you or anyone else in this forum, I just think a little trust and understanding might be in order. If I or anyone else gets ripped off or has problems then I'll eat my words and simply reverse the payment charge.

Something can be said for the added protection a brush guard can add... When I was really young, my mom was driving a Subaru Brat with a sturdy brush guard and hit a deer head on. The bursh guard was toast, but the rest of the car was 100% in tact. A $500 brush guard is probably easier to replace than a $1800 fender bender might be!

Call me dumb then, I have a 4X2 and I want one. I like the agressive look and I think it adds some heft to the Patriot. I had brushguards/rhino guards on my Range Rover Classic and it never saw a dirt trail. It looked amazing, despite it being a typical British piece of junk. I plan on lifting my Patriot as well, not for the off-road clearance but for added height and looks. I'm 6' and my Patriot feels kinds small, especially compared to my previous Rover. I'm not AT ALL comparing the two, I REALLY like my Patriot, it just needs a little beefing up that's all.
