Yesterday I heared the rumor that the european 2.0 CRD engines are downpowered from 160hp to 136hp ? Does anyone know if this is true and if it is easy to get back the full 160hp's ?

From what I heard:

it is not "underpowered". Manufacturer (VW) have several configurations with the same engine block. Also, I have been told that it is quite easy to "chip" (or tune) your engine to get 166bhp (compared to original 140bhp) and torque to 360Nm (compared to original 320Nm), even without much change in fuel consumption... but:
- emission will increase quite much
- as mechanical parts are not intended for increased power and torque, excessive wear MIGHT appear
- void warranty on engine

I was thinking of doing it before I bought the car (I have been invoiced 400EUR for that), but I figured out that (after buying the car and driving it for a while) have more than enough power and torque, although I might do that after I pay the lease.

This engine is in various states of tune for various applications in the VW range of cars. It can be between 115---170 BHP in WV, Skoda, Audi & SEAT cars. Its just that 140 suits the Pats gearing & Economy. This engine lends itself well to Re-Mapping /Chipping!!
If you want more power try the websites of " Tunit" " Super Chips" or even Startech. There are lots of Diesel tuneing companies in the UK that can offer you chipping anywhere between 150----200 BHP. Just watch your warranty & dont forget to inform your insurance company. A lot of these are DIY Plug & Play..but I would preffer mine to be proffessionaly fitted & rolling road tested so I coulld see what the actual increase in power was.....

Well, apart from the fact that I am, so far, EXTREMELY pleased with my Limited CRD Pat, the following would be my dream upgrades:
1. BLD tune of ABS controller. (theoretically possible, practically not done so far)
2. RRO lift kit (at least). (possible - lacking funds)
3. Chipping the engine to 170bhp and 380Nm torque. (possible - do not want to mess with the warranty).
4. low-gearing (so far, mission impossible).
5. some Liberty-like roof off-road lights. (rumors are that one of our members from Mexico already done this).
6. winch and appropriate bumper. (this can be hand-made, but i do not need it without BLD tuning at least).

Chipping to 165--170bhp is still in the back of my mind---Just need to run it past " Her in the kitchen by the stove" She thinks the pat is just powerful enough!! She allways said the Caliber was a Big Kids Car & I was driving it like a Teenager!!
