I did not go back through the history to see if this thread has been started, so I apologize in advance if it has.

The title says it all. What changes do you want for the 2009 Patriot? Now not being a Pat owner (just yet), I can only comment on cosmetic issues mainly. Here is my wish list:

Xenon headlights
Softer armrest
Aux input on ALL radio options
Glove box like the one in the Caliber
Illuminated cupholders (They don't have that already do they?)
Illuminated controls on steering wheel
Possibly change material from hard plastic to carpeted cargo floor

What ya think???

I think your list is a good one but I don't know if many 'Jeepers' will want the carpet though. The Jeep has the moniker of being a utilitarian type of vehicle and the hard plastic is really easy to care for. I just don't know how many want to make it any more street-wise. That might also apply to the xenon lights too but that's just my wild guess. Maybe the xenons as an option for those who want it?
*My personal gripe (apparently not too many agree with me on this) is they should make the damned LEDs in ALL the window controls be lit!
*Along with your softer armrest, I would also like to see it reset to a more usable setting. Even in the forward position, it's almost useless for my wife when she sets the seat up.
*More color choices for the interior PLEASE!

I was not sure about the hard cargo floor, but I know why it is there...it's a Jeep!!! Another thing I expect someone to say is the "cheap plastic" dash (fit/finish) needs to be changed. I like the plastic. It does make it more Jeep-like, imo.

16 gallon tank, CRD. I don't mind the plastic but if anyone has had the 2gen Ram, you have seen those Dashes come apart, i am not talking about cracks I am talking HOLES, I surely hope the jeeps dash doesnt do that.I am trying to get my 2nd dash replaced in my Ram

To all that Genxer said, I'd add...

- Usable sun visors, that block sunlight coming from the side, mirrors that point to the driver and passenger's faces and a light.
- Some 'hidden' storage compartment in the cockpit.
- Back seat pockets.
- More room for the central rear passenger by redesigning the central armrest and cupholders.
- No ipod holder. It's useless as it is now.
- Better interior finish and plastics.
- Bigger fuel tank.
- More off-roady tires for the export version.
- Automatic up and down power windows.
- Automatic headlights (maybe the current version has them already).
- Engine oil temperature indicator.

I never understood the facsination with ipod hookups in cars. Especially if you order one with a radio that plays mp3's, you can make cdrw disk with more than enough music. Autoheadlights: I thought the export versions had daylight running lights, I have heard the Canadians talking about it. You guys are coming up with good stuff. On the larger Fuel tank thread, one suggestion was larger tank, spare tire on an outside carrier. I think that would make it look more like a Jeep

Telescoping steering wheel

I would like cloth seats and the fold-flat front seat to be available as stand-alone options so that you can add them to a base sport without having to order a package that may include things you don't want.

A 2-door version (maybe about 12-18" shorter in overall length, a la the Bronco II)

More exterior color choices

Having the audio input jack is a bit more flexible than just using CDRW discs. I recently added an audio input jack to the stereo in my X-90. Last week I was driving with one of my buddies in the car and he wanted me to hear a new tune he liked; he just connected his MP3 player and we listened to it.

I don't want the spare tire hanging outside attached to the back of the car. One of the advantages of the Patriot is that it's a short and maneuverable SUV, and the tire would ruin that by making the car longer.

Hm, what makes this thread to be called "official" ?

Just wonder.

My suggestions:
Release the FDII version in europe too
US bumper on EU models
Interior update on armrests
Update the middle consol bezel so standart radios would fit visualy (remove the black halfmoon imprints on the bezel)

that´s all .
Oh one more thing:
Turn on the timemachine and let´s jump to 2009 (see sig)

Redesign the terrible lookin steel wheel.
  • To each his own, I guess. I like the steel wheels and think they look just right on our little Jeeps.
Bring back the two tone
16 Gal gas tank
An upgrade of some sort to the door arm rests (the painted plastic scratches and scuffs easily)
A "Renegade" or "Rubicon" Model with enhanced features
Good wish list.
  • The 2008 interior in black is just too monolithic black for my tastes, while the two-tone graphite and grey interior of the 2007 was much more attractive. One reason I prefer the 25D vinyl interior in the 2008 model year Patriots is because, besides being equipped with very comfortabe front seats, they're two-tone handsome to boot.

  • A larger capacity fuel tank is on just about everybody's wish list, but methinks there's a good engineering reason why it's sized the way it is.

  • Yep, the plastic scuffs very easily; I've seen several unsold Patriots on dealer's lots that have been scuffed to Hades and back by unwitting staffers and customers on test drives.

  • I agree a Renegade or Rubicon model that borrows heavily from the Patriot prototype show vehicle would be great!!!

Slightly bigger tank would be nice, though right now I am about $50 per fill-up and that's nice too...yes, I realize that I fill up more often. Ah well. For some reason my last three vehicles have had small tanks.

I am not sure that the Pat has enough moxie for a true "Rubicon" edition. Maybe split the diff and call the high end model the "Pubicon".

Upgraded larger tires would be nice.
V6 option.
Larger gas tank is a must.
CRD for North America.
Heated mirror option.
There's a lot of little things that would help but in a cheap Jeep I don't think a ton of little upgrades are very viable without driving the cost up too high.

Oh how I hate to admit this, but I actually found a use for the ipod holder.

It makes a great place to the travel-sized kleenex tissues. Those smaller ones fit inside the ipod holder perfectly! It might as well hold something useful since my ipod sits in that little cubbie hole under the radio.

Oh, and someone mentioned automatic up and down windows? Correct me if I'm wrong but the factory (at least on US models) do not want the liability of catching some poor kids arm or neck in one of those while automatically going up. Our Mini had an upgrade (aftermarket only!) that would auto-up the windows but the factory didn't (or wouldn't) install something like that.
We would have had to done that ourselves (but chose not to).

Oh, Ditto on the heated outside mirrors and truly-usable sunvisors!:smiley_thumbs_up:

My driver window already has an auto-down feature....

I have had cars with auto-up and they had sensors that would reverse the window if something hit the window as it went up...I actually tested it with my arm one time and it did work.

#22 ·
I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to trust my kid body parts on their sensors to be flawless. Doesn't seem worth it to me. I'll trade the inconvenience of having to hold the button down (and the subsequent peace of mind) over the convenience of auto up.

BTW, was the car that you had that feature in, an american made? I just don't recall if that was a US standard or not.

What would I like to see for the 2009 Jeep Patriot...

let's see:
  • a diesel
  • larger gas tank
  • a diesel
  • separate lower fascia so it could be removed to improve the approach angle without removing the whole bumper
  • a diesel
  • an extra couple inches knees space for the front and rear seats
  • maybe a diesel
  • relocating the rear seat cup-holder so the person in the middle isn't playing footsie with the people on either side.
  • a diesel
  • a slightly smaller version of the Liberty's Sky Slider!

oh and maybe a nice high MPG little 4-banger diesel would be nice.

Optionalrear mount for the spare tire.
2 tone paint choices

more interior color choices.

MP3 jack or pigtail on the back of the radio, as well as one in the cubby under the radio, in the armrest I-pod holder and in the shelf above the glove box.

better central arm rest

release for rear cargo door on cars with out power locks, that can be activated from the driver's seat

folding passenger seat on all Patriots

calculator function included in nav computer or onboard somewhere

spring loaded hood springs rather than a prop rod

easy user friendly available programming to adjust speedometer/odometer to tire diameter

Chrome exterior accent package. Door handles, roof rack, rear lift handle, bumper trim and inserts, mirror scull caps, window edging, wheel well edging, door edging, body side moldings

Woodgrain exterior "Wagoneer woody"

body color option for factory wheel sets

...spring loaded hood springs rather than a prop rod...
Wow, excellent one. I forgot all about that, considering we have thread(s) on just that problem too!

Nice one.:smiley_thumbs_up:

I love it as is, but since you asked

Redesign entire center console (better cup holders, arm rest, and get rid of the useless ipod holder).

Steering wheel controls for all audio systems (less driver distraction).

Illumination for window controls & cruise controls.

Rear windshield wiper that will fold open to 90 degrees and stay there so you can better clean the window.

More comfortable headrests.

Vertical adjustment for the passenger seat.

The old hood thing, just stop the flappin.

#31 ·
-Larger gas tank would be nice.
-More comfortable headrests/seats.
-Maybe some extra chrome trim options
-I would like a pocket on the back of the front seats (good storage for maps/directions). I am not fortunate enough to have a GPS.

The thing that makes the Pat better than a Liberty or Wangler...Cheaper and better fuel economy. You can't add lot's of expensive stuff to the Pat without driving up the cost...with that said here goes:
Off Road front facia and tow hooks on all models. Not stocking two parts should keep costs down.
Separate rear glass and door on cargo area. Had hard time carrying 2X4X8's cause you can't get the rear gate to latch. A more usable cargo area increases usability and thus sales.
Roof rails that look like the concept. Off Road versions come with extra lights pre-mounted. Similiar to Rallaye Compass... More aggressive look separates it from Caliber and Compass relatives.
Center console design...If you need a good model to follow, I always liked the Land Rover Discovery center console...Without a floor mounted shifter, there has to be a better layout of this area.(If it was backwards compatable with previous models you'd probably cover re-design costs with aftermarket sales)
GasTank? My off-Road Model can get 280 miles between fill-ups...should be over 300 or 325.. your talking 2 gals. here come on! Okay, don't know how to justify this...but $8.00 in gas and $5.00 worth of metal doesn't exactly price it outta my budget.
