Hey there. So, I have a 2016 jeep patriot sport front-wheel drive. I want more ground clearance and checked local places, but they said it's impossible to lift mine. I'd like to note that I'm very aware that this jeep isn't a common lift, totally get that. I found a 2-1/8" lift kit from rocky road outfitters $400.

My main question: Will it absolutely, definitely work on my 2WD patriot sport? I'm just nervous about ordering it because it implies on the website they don't welcome returns (which I get, since it's pretty much a custom order).

I also want bigger tires, and couldn't I get some more height with bigger tires?

Any help with this would be great, and I appreciate your time.

As far as I know the suspension design and wheel wells are the same for 2 or 4 wheel drive. I believe that the ride height is lower due to different springs. The RRO lift adds spacers to but does not change the springs, so the amount of lift achieved would be less than on a 4x4 model. Better approach might be to change the springs themselves, such as a Stu's lift:

You could try contacting RRO themselves to confirm their kit works for your vehicle. They have a Facebook page also.

Larger overall diameter tires do raise the vehicle, by approximately half the increase. ie, 1 inch larger tire would be 1/2 inch lift.

Best approach is to really think about what you want to do with the vehicle and why. The advantages of a 2wd vehicle are better fuel economy and better weight carrying capacity (no extra weight of 4wd components). But 4wd is a huge advantage if you will drive in severe conditions or off road at all. You could spend money lifting your vehicle and putting tires and rims on it but find it still doesn't do what you want it to, and also lose the fuel economy advantage.

Zoner99 hits a few points you need to consider.

  • Bigger tires do add to the lift of the vehicle.
  • FWD Patriots have shorter springs than the 4x4 Patriots. You can bump up this height to match the 4x4 sitting height by getting OEM or Moog replacement springs.
  • There are currently 2 proven lifts. They will work on both FWD and 4x4 models. The RRO you found, and the STU coil springs mentioned above. I would recommend you read some feedback on both here on the forums. Each have pros and cons.

I personally wouldnt lift the Patriot past stock 4x4 height, based off some feedback Ive seen. But there are people who havent had any issues either.

The Rocky Road Outfitters lift will work on your FWD Patriot, I had a 2014 that was FWD and I put the lift on it without any problems. As mentioned larger tires and get you up to about an inch of lift without having to do any modifications.

I recently went to a 4x4 Patriot and I just finished putting MOOG springs on the front and rear which lifted the vehicle about 1/2in all the way around but as mentioned the FWD springs are shorter than the 4x4 springs so you could get more than I did.

The easiest way to get some lift on your Patriot is going to be going with bigger tires, if you have a Discount Tire in your area I would go by and give them a visit and let them know what you want to do and they will be able to tell you what your options are. For the record I have 225/75 R16 tires on my Pat and have minimal rubbing on the pinch weld.
