HI ALL

I am driving coast to coast CA to BOSTON with jeep patriot 2011
I want to have as much storage I can get !!!

I have cross bar from jeep and a basket on top of it of SportRack

I want to add another storage - Rightline Gear PackRight Cargo Saddlebag

I wonder if I will connect it to the rail or the cross bar if it will be safe to have the basket with 50K and the Rightline Gear PackRight Cargo Saddlebag with another 50K load. (I do not have hatch down)
Does anyone know if it will be OK and safe to use it like this or it cant be loaded together (also if I can go with it where would be better to connect it to the cross bars or side rails)

If someone also now what is the max capacity of the side rails which come with jeep patriot 2011 I would love to know.

Thank you all and looking forward to hear your thoughts.
Best
Avi

Just so everyone knows what you are talking about.

most SUV/CUV rails are rated pretty low...100 pounds or thereabouts.
Probably from an abundance of caution and with lots of advice from the legal dept.

Put the heavy stuff inside the vehicle, use the roof and back pack thing for the lightest stuff, think while driving and you probably will be alright.

However, comes a time when a small U Haul or even buying a small utility trailer is needed.

Roof rails are rated at 150lbs. Do you have a hitch receiver? If so, you can get a hitch mounted basket as well for around $50. As Metaxa said, load the heaviest things inside first.

I agree. I was going to suggest a hitch hauler. Load the really heavy stuff inside and then spread the rest of the weight out between the roof basket and the hitch hauler. Don't exceed max tongue weight rating for your hitch/vehicle however.

I use a hitch hauler a lot. You can fit a lot there. Just strap it all down good or get one with a cover.

Even though it is a long drive you might be better off to rent a small uhaul trailer if you have a hitch vs all these devices.

Also, keep in mind your MPG will be horrendous with all the extra weight and that roof mounted basket.

Be safe on your trip.

Thank you all for your advice
The dealership who install my cross bar told it take 200lb
But I do not know how much take the side rails and if I can load both in once the basket on the roof and the bug from behind like show in the picture above :)

If someone have extra information regarding this or a placer I cold get the answer it will be really great.

Thank you all for your help
