We've owned 3 Cherokees and a CJ7 so we already love Jeeps.
I couldn't wait the at Least 10 weeks to order a Patriot so we drove 7 hours from IL to Ohio to pick up a Black Patriot Limited 4x4 CVT FDI.

The first half of the trip home I was very impressed with the ride, handling, size, space, stereo, leather heated seats, and well pretty much everything about it.

Then it started to freezing rain. The truck was solid, no slip even in just 2wd. After that there was a freezing rain/sleet/snow mix. Left it in 2wd and it was still great. No wheel spin on acceleration, no squirelly action on the curves, absolutely beautiful.

The final 70mi was an unplowed 2-lane minor highway with about 2 inches of snow/sleet/ice mush mix. Put it in 4wd for at least 50 miles and plowed through like a champ. Powered away on a left hand turn and not even a hint of slippage. Yeah baby, this truck ROCKS! The traction control is great.

Checked gas mileage after the first 1/2 tank was 26mpg. So I'm a very happy camper right now.

BTW, before you ask I got it for $520 off MRSP from this large dealership that only had the 1 Patriot. My local small town dealer would have given me $1000 off MRSP if I had ordered it. My family has a good long-term business relationship with him, but I was unwilling to wait.

Cool thanks for sharing the info on how the Patriot handles "less than ideal" weather conditions... :)

Interior is gray and looks great. The 2 tone leather seats look sporty yet luxurious. A couple people I've showed it too have fell in love with it also. Working on the pictures. Got a little dirty and salty on the way home.

Gas mpg update - Next 250 miles averaged 25.4 mpg. That was with about 150 miles of reg 50-60mph a few stop signs and 3 other stops along the way. Then 50 miles of no faster than 35-40 due to the freezing rain and everybody elses slow speed. And at least 50 miles of 4WD at about 40-45mph through the slush. I am very happy about the gas mileage.

nice! im looking at getting either black, green, or steel blue Limited. ive heard great things about the YES seats, but have yet to see the gray leather. i think the tan colors looks funny with the black/silver console.

cant wait for your pics!

Man, I'd be loving that gas mileage too!

In the Liberty with my 4wd on (full time 4wd) I only see 18MPG on the highway and that is the best it'll get... Oh how I long for a Jeep that gets good gas mileage!

oh man, thats champ! im so going black. i live in the city and itll be an urban commuter, so the black will give it that classy/lux look. hows the CVT feel?

I thought I would prefer the cloth seats but I love the look and feel of the leather. I'll try to get a pic of the inside tomorrow.
thanks! the interior is a major factor in me decision to purchase... that might dissuade me and make me wait out for the 2008. did you have the YES cloth option with the Limited?

Pretty sure the Limited only comes in leather. It was easier to find a Ltd w/o the stuff we don't need like GPS, satelitte radio, u-connect, sunroof, than it was to find a Sport E package w/cruise and cloth heated seats in the color I wanted. It was between Black and Steel Blue Metallic.

From the searchs I did on my local dealerships computer it was near impossible to find a steel blue. Most were Red, khaki, and green at least around the midwest.

Plus the Limited looks a lot nicer than the sport with the extra side molding. I've already had a couple people think it is a $30,000 truck.

The CVT feels great. Very smooth.

Thanks for sharing! I just found out that my Jeep Green, Ltd, FDI CVT is in transit with the 1st carrier! Hopefully that means it arrives at my dealer soon... I don't even know where they ship them from! But, my dealer is in Philly. I am hoping it arrives soon... Friday is my 2nd annual 29th b-day, or the 9th anniversary of my 21st B-day (whichever way works best for you) and I thought it would be fun to be able to pick it up then! Happy Birthday to me!

I already have my VT sticker and Mad River sticker ready to go! I'm psyched to hear it handled so well in crappy conditions, and about the gas mileage! I have only ever owned wranglers--the 1st one required Super--so it'll be nice to be able to drive up north without having to stop twice for gas!

don't worry and trust in duct tape

Don't worry about the size.If its too small you just take advatage of some special products on today's sofisticated market like for instance the legendary duct tape.
With the intelligent use of duct tape and steady hands you can upsize just about anything even your Ipod mini.

The armrest does slide forward. The first time, it took a little effort to pull it forward. I grabbed it from the back of the "lid" and pulled.

I have an ipod mini and the space is actually too large for one to have it in there and see/operate it (I bet a Nano would pose even more of a problem). I have the ipod in a case with a flip cover, so I just folded the cover backwards and slid that in there instead. Having the armrest slid forward, combined with that arrangement, left the ipod controls very easy to use.

Thanks for the info! I just have a plain plastic case.. maybe I'll buy a new one for the jeep:) She could use a present when she comes in!

If not... duck tape it is! I am a firm believer in the unending uses of duct tape as well! that and WD-40! Love that stuff!

oh! and I am new to these modern radio things... the AUX jack--does that come with a plug you just put into the headphone jack in your iPod or do you need to buy something?

Yes, the AUX jack is for the stereo headphone of your portable player. I find that the mp3 holder in the armrest is not as convenient as the shelf just below the radio. I have a small cable that I use to attach the AUX port to my Enza Dream'eo portable media center.
