Hi all,
first of all, sorry for my bad english, I'm from Austria/Europe.
I changed my 1996 XJ into a Jeep Patriot CRD matt black.
I'll get it next week on friday.
It was a demonstration car and after we saw and drove it, my wife and I loved it and bought it. I'm sure, I'll miss my Indian, but the Pat seems to be the best alternative.
(As a Jeep fan, I hate most of the new cars - European, Asian or American - they all look the same - boring and "modern". But with a 2 year old son, we needed a car with air condition - the XJ was without a.c.)
My good old XJ:

Our new Patriot:

The Jeep is matt black (foil) and the engine hood is carbon (foil).
It's registration date was march 2010, but when I look at the cockpit, it must be the "old" Patriot, 2008/09 I guess.

I can't wait 'till friday next week, when we get the car!
Saturday a professional darkens the windows. I'll post pictures.
So, I'm sure I'll have some questions about the car the next weeks, because a little work must be done. (Speakers, dark lights, etc.) In one year I'll buy matt black rims. That's it, just decent black Jeep - no bling bling, no tuning, no chrome, etc. (as a father - no money for that kind of things :D
I hope this car has a character like my XJ had - although I know that todays cars aren't built to last forever ;-)

So, I'm opening a beer now and read through the forum. Interesting things to learn for me.
Cheers!

Welcome! I like the matte black. We use road salt where I live, so It would be terrible here, but it looks great.

Don't worry about the English, you're fine:D Besides, there are plenty of people who speak it natively that slaughter the ScheiĂźe out of it.

#3 ·
Thanks for your answer. :D

We use road salt here, too. 3-5 months a year.
You mean terrible because
- it gets rusty?
or
- it gets white "clouds" and you have to wash the car more often?

"Clouds":
I can live with it. Next to my house is a carwash :D

Rust:
The foil protects the car, so it shouldn't be a problem with rust.
My wife worked at "Opel" and she asked the mechanics there what they think about our car and the foil. (Matt black foil is extremly up to date here in Austria at the moment, for all type of cars - but we wanted a matt black Jeep for 14 years - so who cares about trends?)
The mechanics told her it's perfect when the foil was put on a new car. It's a good protection and after 5-7 years you remove it (1-2 hours work for a professional) an your car has a paint as good as new.

For used cars, you shouldn't do it, they told us.

sehr schoen patriot!
where from austria are you?
my sister lives in vienna,so my pat drove a few times around there and last april in ischgl.
i think the patriot is a good choice for a country like austria.
congratulations and make the most of it!

Hi and welcome. I like your new Patriot; Congratulations. That 1996 XJ is an awesome looker too. English is also my second language and I'm quite sure I am guilty of slaughtering it too on occasion lol. Good luck and cheers.

#7 ·
Thank you for your compliments. I loved our XJ, but it's time to say goodbye.
I'd love to drive it till 2050, but he isn't getting younger or better, and I'm good at driving, but an idiot at repairing.

The last 2 years he has only ugly cheap wheels, because some M***********r stole the rims you see on the foto!

That's why I'll buy just normal, not too expencive, black rims for my patriot.

Hello & welcome to the family!! Nice looking Patriot , I have never seen a Matt Black before. Did the previous owner do the matt application.

I visited Innsbruck & Seefeld 30 yrs ago & Vienna 10 yrs ago ---My stepdaughter lives in Switzerland & I occasionaly visit there.

#9 · (Edited)
Hi tiptronic,
the application was done by (or for) the official Jeep/Chrysler-Dealer.
It was a demonstration car. They told me, that a business-customer, who buys many cars per year for his companies,
get's one car for his wife per year for free. And she or he wanted matt black, so Chrysler did it
(I guess they have sub-companies that do this - like they let other companies do the dark windows when they sell used cars and the customer wants 'em.)

But well, you know, the car salesman told me that story, so I have to believe it. And to be honest: I WANT to believe it :D

Cheers!

Welcome! Both Jeeps look good.

Seems from information from folks on this forum that road salt can affect front end parts, and wheel bearings on our Patriots, so keep an eye on those.

From the photo the Patriot could be a 2010, the outside changed in 2011 models and the Patriot name was dropped from the rear bumper.

#18 ·
Thanks for the information with rust, etc. and for all the nice welcomes!

2010? Really? They told us march 2010, but the cockpit looks 2007/08:

Image

With that cockpit, it's easier for me to get used to the pat, from the XJ :D
I like the natural oldschool Jeep style. Simple and timeless.

We totally forgot to ask what type of patriot we have (Sport, Limited, etc.). They call it in the advertisement "Sport" but that can't be true.
No leather steering wheel, no DVD, just CD (mp3), no foglights, etc.
In the sale contract, they call it Just "Patriot CRD" When we drove it, we didn't care. The less elecronic toys, the less problems, my opinion.
And now we still don't care, just happy getting a nice looking Patriot.

"No SPORTs, we are pretty" :pepper:

It isnt a Limited its just a Sport same as I had. Sport is no fog lights , No Silver roof rails , " Yes Fabric" seats not leather, no heated seats , no cruise control, Just a single shot CD player ( Even Limited doesnt get DVD/Nav in UK /Europe)......You should have Electric , heated folding mirrors. If it is a Limited , it will have Chrome Limited badge on the tailgate. The dashboard you show is 07---10 After this the dash was modified. There were originaly only 2 Euro models Limited & Sport, they have recently added Sport Plus.

so jealous of the paint!! wow, so cool. murder that thing out! tint the tails and corner lights, along with black rims. Let me know if you need help looking for the right HID headlight kit too ;] welcome!

#23 ·
I wanted dark lights, but it's stricktly forbidden in Austria.

But I'm sure we'll talk about the right HID hl in the next weeks. Thanks.

Hey great! Thanx for your help! Here's the (false) ad from the Jeep/Chrysler Dealer, in German. They just copied the description from the Patriot 2011. :

:pepper: Got my patriot today! :pepper:
First I was sad hearing the WROOOOM Sound from my XJ for the last time.
But the buyer sold my XJ to greece. As a Greece-fan, I probably see my black Indian Chief again sometime :D

The Pat drives like my XJ would, if he was built 2010.
Same sice, simple to handle. No complicated extras.

Saturday we get black Windows.

The only thing I'm looking for in the internet, are black mats.
Chrysler/Jeep can't order the Vmaxx Riffle "rubber" mats anymore.
Does anyone have these Husky Line?
http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370480957982&clk_rvr_id=239268507365

Do they fit?
Thanks for help,
cya
Michael
PS: When the windows are dark, I'll post fotos.

Welcome and congratulations. That looks really awesome. I thought about doing the same on my Patriot when I bought it last year, it would make a perfect match to my bike (HD Iron 883). But with this economic mess all over it is being hard enough just to keep up with them both the way they are

#26 ·
Congrats on picking up your Patriot. You're going to really like this vehicle. So one question......who gets to drive it on a daily basis, you or the wife? :Racing:

p.s. Please show pic's of the tint when available. I'm sure it will look awesome.

#27 ·
Thanks.
Wife 60% (daily to work), me 40% (trips, holidays, free time, visiting family, etc.)
I use to go to work (4 minutes per foot :notworthy:) and 2-3 times a week to the pub (5 minutes per tram or 15 per foot). I don't drink and drive (anymore). Jeep sleeps in the garage - better.
Why do you ask?

I get the tint next week. The guy who does it, has no time tomorrow.
I'll post fotos.
----
The last 3 hours we drove through vienna. This car is really fun to drive!
Our son loves it. I just need seatcovers and mats for the feet.
I bought Alpine 3-way speakers after reading the helpfull forumthreads. They only had these in the shop. All the others sold out....
After beeing a father, I don't need Hifi for high price anymore. 4 qualityspeakers are enough.
Going to the pub, drinking with my friends and talking about my car till sunrise :blah:
Cheers Jeepers!

#28 ·
Hello to the All-black Patriot owner!
Post pics after the tint and think about maybe painting your wheels matt-black.
Your ride will then be one of a kind!
And I will easily spot you when I will be in Vienna!
Regards!

#29 ·
Today I got the dark windows. More tint is not allowed in Austria. :(
Sorry for the bad fotoquality, but I was in a hurry and the sun was too bright.

I'm really happy with my Pat. He's agil and nice to drive. City and overland.
Black Rims will be bought when my wallet is filled again.
This winter I'll use the original rims for snowtires and I plan to get black rims in spring. Any size suggestions? I guess the cheapest way is to stay with the actual size.

The only thing that annoys me, is that the chryslershop told us and my insurance the wrong original price of the car. I looked in the internet and found my patriot configuration. It's not SPORT (as they told us), it's not SPORT+, it's not LIMITED or OVERLAND or something.
It's the cheapest form of Patriot. They built 2008/09 only for Austria.
It's called "MY FIRST JEEP" http://www.jeep.at/patriot/special_edition/first_jeep/index.html and was 8000 (!!!) Euros cheaper than they told us!!!!
(the foil not included)

So, we paid too much, but that's not the problem. 5000 Euros more and I'd get a 2011 Patriot. But without the foil. So I like the car and we bargained and payed 2500 less than they wanted. First I thought it's a sale of the century. Now I know it wasn't.
But that's not the problem. What annoys me, is that they gave the high price to my insurance, so I pay much more insurance rate than I should pay.
AND the radio without mp3 is another point. (see the Audio section:http://www.jeeppatriot.com/forum/showthread.php?t=74826 )

So we wait for the bill from chrysler. Should be in my mailbox this week.
Then we'll call the insurance AND the Jeep-dealer. It's not ok, that they didn't tell the truth. (Well, car salesmen - a unique human race)
It would be ok, if they lower the insurance rate and if chrysler installs a better radio. We will see. I'm sure my wife will fight for her rights like a lion :D
We have a legal costs insurance so no problem.

Apart from that, the Patriot, the color, the engine, etc. is great and it's fun to drive! I put in new speakers Alpine SPG-69C3 and ordered good car mats from Vmaxx.

Friday I'll make a short 2day trip to the mountains. A wedding of a friend in Carinthia. 4 hours highway and nice mountain roads. Let's see how the pat is doing.
But no off-road! It's to new and my wife would kill me destroying our new PAT at the first trip :Racing:

The matt black is beautifull. :notworthy:
It might have been a cheap limited version but it has some of the Limited's specs from what I can tell: 17" alloys, front fog lights, etc.

#32 ·
Mine is also very basic, only option I got was the Off Road, and mine is a Sport. I personally don't like power windows and door locks, etc. Just more things to go wrong IMHO.

I like the flat black look too, and you will always know which one is yours.

For winter wheels, look at the 16", as there are a lot more tires available for that size, and you can always get the same diameter, so won't affect your height, or spare tire.

As far as good mats for winter, it seems the two big choices are WeatherTech, and Husky. There are several threads here in the forum on those.

#33 ·
Dont forget , The UK /Euro Sport model , is far higher speced than its equivelent North American brother.

People on the Avenger site are amazed that the UK SXT comes with heated , leather electic seats , fogs. trunk spoiler, auto dip mirror, heated folding electric door mirrors.chrome grille etc. A lot of these things have to be specified in an options package in USA , even on the SXT.

#34 ·
I mentioned on another thread also the high spec version we get in South Africa: Only one model, Limited with heated leather, 17" alloys, EVIC, 4x4, front and rear fog lights, cruise control, power windows, power doorlocks, heated folding mirrors, etc.

#36 · (Edited)
Cheapest Patriot in UK is ÂŁ19.795 ( I dont think it will be on sale much longer) However when the Dacia Duster gets here next year it will start at ÂŁ11.000.I didnt know that the Lada was still for sale ???? used to be the NIVA in UK.

Came back today from the trip to carinthia.
About 800 kilometer (500 miles) of highway, countryroads and mountainroads,
sun, rain, extreme rain, and speed between 80 and 170 km/h (50 - 105 mph)
It was really relaxed, silent and safe driving, but with power if I needed it.
My friends liked the car, too.
A car for city AND for trips to Italy, Kroatia or other family holidays.
Driving 2x 400 km with my XJ? Was nice, but I would sleep now, because it was exhausting.

Great stuff!! I had a RIVA 1200 years ago----The trouble with LADA's is you can kill them--but they just wont lie down!!---If you think the Basic Patriot is Basic ---the NIVA is Basic Basic---I cant help but love its honesty!!
