Ok, so I currently live in Germany and my husband is deployed. I have discovered the Jeep Patriot and so far I am loving the reviews the car is getting and I really like the car in general! Now, here is my problem. I am wondering if I am getting a good price. I have an offer for a 2007 Jeep Patriot 4x2 with an upgraded package (power everything and driver seat height adj., keyless entry etc.). The offer is 20,000. Does this sound reasonable? Also, I am test driving one this weekend (have to drive 2 hours just to test drive one!). However, the one I am test driving is a manual and if I get the Patriot I'm getting an automatic. Is there a big difference in the way the car feels and rides between the manual and automatic? Is the Patriot safe to drive in the snow? Since my husband isn't here I don't have him to rely on and ask the questions that I'm probably not even thinking about. Can anyone tell me what questions need to be asked before purchasing? Unfortunately, my car situation is quite serious at the moment. I currently drive this little beat up Renault that actually shot rocks at my head out of the air conditioning unit the other day!! So, there is no way I can drive the Renault through another winter!! Please help!!:notworthy:

can you provide a little more detail on the car you have the quote on? Is it a sport model or Limited? Basic cloth interior is a key tell tale. Cloth = Sport, Leather = Limited

I think they both price out the same, but the Limited version comes with most of the power this and power that stuff standard (minus the automatic transmission)

I put my sister into a 4x2 Compass sport with all the bells and whistles, minus NAV, for just over 20K USD so the prices sound right I'd just like to help make sure that you don't get ripped off...

Yes there is a difference... You won't fell it shifting. The CVT (automatic) transmission is seamless and a joy to drive.

I'd still recommend the test drive just to make sure this is exactly the car you are looking for - but if you can try to drive an automatic Patriot or Compass. The Compass is the same vehicle minus the exterior styling

Is the Patriot safe to drive in the snow?
YES

Obviously the terms and conditions. What exactly is the lenght of the warranty they are including (lifetime powertrain warranty is now standard)

Ask if they offer a discount because your husband is serving the country

That sounds serious!

That is just the French's Anti-Theft Device!

(Give us a of a rundown on model/options and then we can help more, BUT compared to what I paid for my 4x2 so far that sounds like a decent deal)

take the 4x4 you see a good work in snow
I respectfully disagree.

For snow driving, SMART driving with a 4x2 on public roads is all that is really needed.
If you are strapped on cash, you can skip the 4x4 if you are not doing off roading.

Using your head with a 4x2 will work just fine.

Ok, it's the sport with cloth interior. It's red :) Unfortunately, there is no military discount since I'm purchasing it from a dealership right outside of the base I live at. Also, and unfortunately, I am having to pay commercial shipping because my husband and I have lived in Germany for two years and are past the "military shipping a car for free" deal. The shipping is about 1,000 so in actuality the car is 19,000. The warranty is 3 yrs/ 36,000 mile warranty and of course the Lifetime Powertrain warranty. It's the 2.4 liter if that helps. It also has all-season floor mats. It also has something called Ziebart Overseas Vehicle Protection package which is the thing to prevent corrosion and rust. It has the CVII Transmission. It has fog lamps. (I'm basically just listing the invoice offer they gave me) It is the base trim level if that helps. So what do you all think? Oh, and there is a rebate of 1,000. So out the door it's 20,000 including the rebate and commercial shipping fees. Is there anything else I should be asking for? Is this a good deal? I really need a new car. Not only did my car shoot rocks at me but it also needs to have the fuse put into the fuse box everytime I want to listen to the radio (otherwise the overhead light stays on all the time), the door behind the driver's side hasn't opened in almost a year, the back windshield wiper motor went out last year, and recently a mouse was discovered living in the engine of the car. Oh, and the sun roof leaks lol. I think it's time for an upgrade to the pretty Patriot!! What do you think?

What do I think? I think you might want to get out of that Renault ASAP!!
The deal you have is a good one, all things considered. It sounds fair and do-able. Go for it if you can.
I agree with nearly.normal.jimmy on the 4X2. It WOULD be nice to get the 4X4 but not really necessary unless you plan on doing offroading. Driving smart is 10times better than thinking you are bulletproof in snowy conditions with a 4X4.
Good luck and please tell your husband "Thank You" for the job he is doing!
Best regards,

You can't go to Ramstein or the other larger bases and see if you can order through AAFES? I don't know if your hubby is AF or Army, so I don't know where he is stationed. I know they charge a shipping charge, however you receive the usual rebates and some times the military incentives. Also TAX free. So it might be worth a look. However, most of the off base dealerships here in the UK, do Tax free too, so in all truthfulness, I don't know if there is much difference in price between AAFES and your off base dealership.

did you check out the exchange new cars sales from AAFES... I ordered a new 2004 Grand Prix GTP from them, had it delivered, it was TAX free and I got a $2000 rebate for purchasing from AAFES. I was stationed in Weisbaden at the time.

didnt see your post... oops. When I got mine through AAFES it was a lot cheaper then going through the Germans. With a VAT form you would save the tax money, but the Euroconomy is so strong that the prices are inflated. Where are you at in the UK? I was born at RAF Fairford and went to School at RAF Wittering, RAF BrizeNorton, and RAF Lakenheath.

I think everyone here would like to see another patriot owner on the streets but we really don't know what packages it has.

If they are going to give you an invoice deal, thats great but keep in mind that "Ziebart Overseas Vehicle Protection package which is the thing to prevent corrosion and rust" is probably a scam because the car comes with a rust protection warranty anyways.

Also note that if you are in germany, the lifetime powertrain warranty is for vehicles in the U.S. Only!

Check out http://www.autoexchangeonline.com. This might be the right place. There are some military autosources you might be better off going through.

Good Luck!

I asked my dealer about a rust warranty and he told me there wasn't one. I have looked at my window sticker (it lists all warranties) and couldn't find it either. I was offered the aftermarket job they do, in which case they would warranty THAT, but that was my only option.

Did I miss something that Jeep offers but isn't listed on the window sticker? And that my sales guy didn't know about?

I picked up my vehicle 2 weeks ago (in the states) and JEEP is taking $500 off for anyone who is/was military. You don't even have to be retired mil to get it according to my dealer, just have served and got an honorable discharge. Don't see why the dealer is saying you can't get the discount if the rebate is coming from JEEP???

She is buying the car from a German Dealer and frankly I can tell you from experience, not only do they not care if you are American Military, but they don't like American military! Defiantly not gonna get a discount from them! The only Germans that will give you a military discount are at the Hard Rock in Klon, Munchen or Berlin.

When I was in Afghanistan this past year, I was going to buy a Commander through AAFES their price were alot cheaper than what the the local dealers were charging. I don't know how it is when you are OCONUS though, but I had to buy it while deployed to get that price. Have your husband go to an AAFES where he is located and ask. There was a certain web site I had to go to. I will see if I can find it.

Hah you are in Drum? I know I had the first patriot at Drum. My buddy who probably had the second one crashed it in Oswego with 2700 miles on it! We couldn't order them from AAFES while we were still in the stan in Jan! We got both of ours in Feb!

I checked on that site (only refers to '07s though). Then, when the wife got home with the Pat, I went to the ole glovebox and there it was..the warranty booklet. Guess it woulda been beneficial to READ the danged thing, huh?? You called it. Right there in B&W, if I had bothered to read it, that is...

GK,

I just got a Patriot from Exchange New Car sales (ENCS) here in Stuttgart. This is the website http://www.encs.com they don't show prices but do show inventory and rebates. The prices you mention seem in line with what they sell them for. The Zbart is all ready on there but after I reviewed the warrantee I found the thing is only good if you get an annual renewal at done at a Zbart dealer, but there are none around here. I plan to talk to AAFES/ENCS about this. I am going from a SAAB to the Patriot and so far I love it. If you want send me a private e-mail and I will give you my phone number, so you can call ask me anything you want about the Patriot or the buying process. If you can show proof of owning a Chrysler product in the past you can get another $500.00 off the price. I believe they also have special offers for military that are deployed. Just look around the website the info is there. I think the Patriot 2x2 or 4x4 will meet your needs. Don't buy the $1600.00+ extended warrantee ENCS sells. Good luck!

I woder if I can some how get that in the states. I just found out today that I am eligable for the military discount of 500 dollars so I need to fax out some rebate paperwork. I traded in a Dodge Stratus so I might be eligable for another 500 dollars but I don't know who I would talk to about that. The rebate people said there wasnt any loyalty stuff going on right now. Mabye the 500 dollar is ENCS only?

Ill give my dealership a call.

To anyone considering buying from ENCS. Please look at the quote you receive. It will include the Owners Protection Plan (OPP) which is an extended warrantee you may want to consider not taking it. The cost for this on the Patriot was $1590.00 plus $175.00 for the overseas part. That totals $1765.00 for a vehicle that all ready has a 3 yr 36K and Lifetime limited warrantee. They won’t volunteer the fact that you can decline this you have to ask them. Look at it carefully you may find it redundant to what the vehicle all ready has and can save you $1765.00 off the price.

If you can go just a couple grand more I'd go w/the 4x4.
Part of the reason I purchased my Pat was because I knew my women would be driven it around all the time. There is no snow in Phoenix however if we go to flagstaff and she has to drive, I will slap on that 4x4 for her! Cars are trickier to maneuver in snow obvisouly but I don't wouldn't want to take any chances w/my son in the Pat! Call my over protective.

I also do agree though w/nearly normal jimmy as it may be more practical to get the 4x2. Think long term also... If you keep it will you always be around snow during winter time?
