So shopping for a pstriot but looked at the cx5 again.
Any one look at the cx5? Or know some one with one?
I feel like the patriot has a timeless look. Where the cx5 might look too feminine or just goofy in a few years. Want to get 10+ years out of next car.

I'm trying to get my wife to look at the cx 5 for her. It looks pretty decent and gets up to 35 MPG... but it has almost 20 HP less than my Jeep, and definitely not for me looks wise

It already does. :D

I did not buy the Jeep for its cargo area. My 10 speed bike has a larger cargo area than the Patriot. Once the seats are folded down it does give you adequate space if your moving or have a large tv or whatnot.

I love the old school look of the Pat that is my favorite feature.

I kind of like the look of the cx-5. While it's down on power, that engine is more advanced than the Patriot's and backed by a traditional automatic. Truly, the cx-5 is probably a better crossover for most people, it will drive better on the street and I expect it to retain its value better than the Patriot. But it is more expensive than a Patriot and what is good for the street is bad for the trail. If you will never use the vehicle on anything worse than a dirt road and can afford the price point go with the cx-5.

Or wait for the next Patriot to be revealed.

I'd have to drive one on the road, and in winter conditions, before I could agree with you MrMischief. I've driven a lot of 4x4 vehicles, and have 2 other 4x4s now along with the Pat, and nothing has ever been better, IMHO, for winter roads than the Patriot.

Ah good point. I was thinking just zipping down dry roads. In deep snow my money is on the Patriot. Snow packed and icy.... I don't know enough about the Mazda AWD system to make an educated guess. However I'd guess that it will be very similar to Freedom Drive. Although to put a bit of Zoom-Zoom in they might have it be more aggressive with adding power to the rear in turns. For me Jeep wins because I don't expect the Mazda to have a "lock" button.

It is unlikely anyone here would pick a Mazda over the Patriot. Most of us already made that choice. Get a Jeep if you want timeless.

Compass is #15, Patriot is #20

Patriot is "Underpowered and has a basic cabin". They say it's neither an off road vehicle or a true cross over, so it is a confused beast.

Compass has some "off road power" with car-like handling making it practical for commutes. The cabin lacks standard amenities and cargo space.

CX-5 has "phenomenal handling, near perfect manual transmission and outstanding fuel economy." They say the handling is close to the Miata. That is a HUGE praise, and such a leap that I find it difficult to believe. But they say it needs more power.

I don't agree with what they say about the Patriot and the Compass, and placing them so far apart on the list makes me go "hmm..." That said I'm going to have to go drive one of these CX-5s for giggles.

Not sure how they are today, but my wife had a mazda a few years back; we got rid of that car because the cost of maintenance and repairs was crazy.

I do not know why but everything on that car cost an arm and a leg to repair.

EX: Spark plug wires. $150.00

Anyone remember the Volvo ads from years ago? They made fun of the new cars with their "swoopy-doo" lines, rather than the boxy shape of the Volvos...I personally think that todays "cross-overs" are awful--and sit in the driver's seat and try to look out the side thru all the junk that's in the way--don't have that problem with our "square" cars...

I rented a Mazda and found it cheap and tinny. Then rented a Compass and it was much nicer than I expected- felt solid and got 30 mgp overall (about the same as the Mazda). I don't believe some of the vehicle rating- I've owned three Chrysler mini-vans and they are the best all-around vehicles I ever owned, yet they get low ratings. Buy what you like.

test drove both today. The mazda is a smother ride but that blind spot was too much.
patriot was stiff but i guess thats expected.

getting a good deal on the patriot. want to see if an info screen can be installed buy the dealer. mainly mpg stuff , The dealer can do that right?

If you are talking about the EVIC with gas mileage and stuff, I don't think the dealer can add it.. is part of a package from the factory. There are after market options a lot of people use on here though, like the scan gauge II

That article is full of crap. My Patriot rides better and smoother than my wife's Land Rover LR2. Her truck has a boxy ride to it similar to my Ram 1500 and the LR2 costs 15,000 dollars more than my Patriot . And the fit and finish of my 2012 Patriot is not that bad compared to other vehicles in it's class.

I will post a pic of my install sometime today. It uses a suction cup and a flexible arm.

Sorry for the delay...

I know the day will come when my Patriot won't be my everyday driver, but hopefully not for a long time...anyway, to discuss other vehicles....I don't know why, but I actually like the looks of the Nissan Juke. I think the car/suv looks completely bad@$$.

For "just" $600,000 you can get a Juke R.

look it up on YouTube.

They took a Juke and stuffed a GTR running gear and motor underneath.
And does it go...

No matter your thoughts about Nissan, you have to give props to a company that would listen to that idea and go with it...sort of like Dodge did with the Viper.
