Looking to buy a 2010 Patriot Sport.

First of all, hello everyone.

A close-by dealership has a 2010 Patriot Sport with 115,000 miles on it and is going for $7,500. Is this good or should I keep shopping around? I test drove it and it rode smoothly and was very clean, although it had some front end problems, most likely alignment issues. Thanks in advance. :smile2:

Welcome,

Not from the US but from what I've seen on the forum keep an eye out on the front end, could be suspension problems or going that way if there are potential "alignment issues".

Good luck with your potential purchase. I have a euro spec 2010 sport and it has been a great SUV, 86,000km and going strong.

Great if you want descent km/l and the ability to take it on the beach and relatively easy trails of its 4x4.

Welcome from SoFlo. If you can sense an issue, then there is one! Don't ignore your gut. If there is an independent garage nearby, insist on taking the Pat there to have it inspected before making your offer. Otherwise have the dealer either fix the problem(s) or put in writing what condition the front end is in and what needs to be done to bring it into spec.s / correct it. There is always another option! You are in control of the deal until you sign!
Good Luck and post your experience.

What's your budget? I'd be more inclined to buy something a little newer with a lot less miles and with the regular 6 speed automatic and not the CVT (though the CVT doesn't seem to be unreliable). A Certified Jeep would be good too. It'd come with a 7 year/100,000 mile powertrain warranty (from the original date when it was new).

Heck, I've seen brand new Sport trim models for $13,500 with zero miles. Pay more upfront for a newer lower mile vehicle with a warranty, or face the risk of dropping $7,500 on something that may require thousands of dollars in repairs in the next year or so.

How's the CarFax on it? Does it indiciate regular oil changes? Usually there will be a link to the CarFax on the dealer's listing for the car.

i would be wary spending $7500 on a vehicle with 115k miles on it that already has potential problems,
what if its not just an alignment issue and needs suspension work?
if it was just an alignment issue dealer should have corrected it before putting it out on the lot
without knowing specifics i would say for $7500 you could do better
if you go ahead with it i would request dealer do alignment first and request some kind of warranty for suspension

Here is what happened.

Initially, the Honda of Joliet dealership tried to scam me by trying to sell me this 2010 Jeep Patriot (Which they listed for $6,000 on their website) for $8,500. We talked about it last night before they closed and we agreed on $7,500, but because they were about to close, we decided we would finish all paperwork tommorow. They also said they didn't feel it was necessary to put down a deposit (Which would of held the vehicle as mine and technically sold).

Then when I got home, I decided to look up the vehicle on the internet. To my surprise it was listed as $6,000. That's when I figured out they were trying to stiff me. I called them as soon as they opened and told them about this, they said "Well... you were wanting to buy it for 7,500..." I then said "Well that was when you guys told me it was 8,5k. They then properly lowered the price to $6,800 (out the door price), I come in, do all the paperwork, sign everything....

Then they proceed to tell me that the car was sold less than 30 mins ago.

I said some not-so nice things and left, (The Patriot was sitting outside of the dealership front door aswell.)

Ouch. I wonder how many people they've sold it to so far, before one finally picked it up. My 2010 has done good so far, though admittedly I could have taken better care of the CVT.

Never get upset when things don't work out. It was meant to be. You really need to get a six speed automatic not CVT. You are taking a huge risk with a CVT. A 2014 model used is the same price new. Do the research, all of us on here know this. And GL.

CVT is amazing though. Could use some TLC, but the tech is worth looking into. If I didn't believe in it, I would've sold mine a loong time ago.
