Hello all, just joined here. I have a 2008 Patriot with the off road package. Not a bad little SUV, milage is pretty good, power is ok, and off road capability is pretty good.

I have a cabin on top of a mountain in north central PA. In late winter, when the snow melts some on warm days and then freezes. I have a foot or so of snow on top of 6-8 inches of ice, on a steep rutty dirt road. With 4wd and 4 chains it does ok.

Looking for a replacement bumper, brush guard, and winch to be more comfortable off road. Has anyone found a source for that?

Hope to meet all of you sooner or later.

Dixie

Hello & welcome ! What model do you have ???? Sport, Limited, North Edition, Trail Rated FD2 CVT or 5 speed manual----Lots of info on here.....

Oh it's a Sport, auto-trans, with the off road package.

It's a little tight getting the chains on, not a lot of room between the tire and inner fender.

Since those photos I've added the hood shield and window flares. Looks good. Guess I need a few new photos.

Nice...chains...You'll go anywhere with those on (or almost)

Welcome dixiedawg! I hear you on the Patriot not being a bad little SUV. Not all SUVs handle themselves well off-road, and some are far larger than needed.
I have nto gotten these yet as I don't have the extra cash, but here's a start for for finding a Bush guard, among other things like dash kits and slush mats and such: http://www.carid.com/2008-jeep-patriot-grill-guards/

Thanks for the welcomes, and the link. Odd they say it;s a grill guard for the Patriot, but the photo they show with it is not a Patriot?

I have a portable winch, that can be put on a tow hitch ball, or even just used with straps. It's not bad, but to be effective you need to carry it with you. I leave it at the cabin, so if I ever get stuck I have to walk there and carry it back to the Jeep. Still better than being stuck I guess, lol.

A good farm jack is also good to have around if you go off road, they can be used for many things, including as a sort of come-along if needed.

The guard is imaged on a Patriot here :http://www.carid.com/product.php?productid=60003&cat=90229&page=1 . Right below their "add to cart button". I have not seen other grill/bush guards for the 'Riot, so naturally I would have this installed if I could (along with SuperSliders)...perhaps after a local Jeep sow next weekend if I'm lucky with a prize or two some mods would be possible :D

Oh you're right, they do show it on a Patriot, but not wide enough for me. I actually drive through brush and want it for protection, so want it to extend to the sides more to protect the lights and front end. And a winch mount would be good. The one they show doesn't look like a trail rated Patriot, no front hooks.

I appreciate the link, thanks.
