I hope this hasn't been addressed before - every search I did returned a ton of links to unrelated topics...

Mopar sells a roof basket with off-road lights on it:

My question is this: those lights are fairly far back from the front edge of the roof. Isn't that a poor place to place lights? Wouldn't they leave out a dark area in front of the Jeep? Or do these lights actually work? Anyone with actual user experience with this product?

Tony, I was wondering the same thing as you when I first saw this picture at Mopar's brochure... I have two guesses for those lights:
1. They have very narrow dispersion of ray-beam in order to light the street without leaving dark areas - as you mentioned.
2. They're there just to indicate your position at fog or bad weather conditions.
Maybe someone who has installed them can give us some more information...

They are meant for offroad only, not the street, and not for fog. I'm sure a cop would pull you over if you were driving with them turned on.

I would aim them to the rear and to the sides so you can see around and behind you in the dark.

the roof basket is great....BUT DON'T BUY THE FOG LIGHT FROM DEALER.
they are to expensives and yes they are just there for looks.
i bought them whithout asking the price and when i saw that they were beaming half of the roof, i change them for three 6 inch round fog light that i install in the hole that hold the plastic wind deflect...save money , better looking and they actually work great they beam the front of the patriot pretty good.....
and by the way..the 2 scare light from jeep are **** whit tinny brackets that won't hold the trail......

Yes, would love to see pics! I want a basket, but fear it would kill my MPG as I do mainly HWY driving. I admit it, I wanna look cool:)

I went to a local (hmmm, how would I call him???) plastics craftsman (the guy who fixes broken bumpers, mirrors, and any other plastic parts), showed him this photo and he told me that he can made that.... SO, in following 2-3 months, await for photos on how things are developing.

As we agreed, following steps are:
- I will enlarge and print this roof-light-bar and take it to him....
- He will call me when he finds appropriate piece of plastics and then
- I would have to buy halogen lights
- It will take him some time to produce this thing, as he is doing everything by hand.
- We will fit the thing on the roof.

Now, I have to find how to take cables under the hood! Any suggestions? In installation instructions for Mopar lights on roof basket I read that they drill a hole in roof!!!???!!! Can that be avoided by any means???

Bob, this is bar for Dodge Nitro. I just played with Photoshop and "fitted" it on Patriot. English is not my mother tongue so I do not know all the names :) So, lightbar is right term for this, so I can search on the e-bay? Guy told me if I find pre-made he can easily fit it on the Patriot, only if general dimensions fit.

Ooh. That Liberty light bar looks promising!

...Of course, I just found out that in Finland it is illegal to have forward-pointing lights behind the front axle. :( Stupid legislative BS...

Unfortunately, I would have to buy new one to experiment, and as already said, it is too expensive for me. From what I saw minor adjustments might be needed, but generally, it COULD fit. If anybody finds one on junk yard, PLEASE share experience, because I would LOVE to have it on my Patriot!

Once I get my roof basket, I would really like to install these H.I.D. off road lights by Warn. I think they look phenominal and can only imagine the light dispersion they give off! Does anybody out there have any previous experience with these lights in particular? Have you seen anybody with them on? Any thoughts or comments? I really think that with these lights, you only need a pair, not four lights. What do you think?

I've only hit a few scrap yards and pick-a-part lots around Calgary. Unfortunately, it seems like everyone else has the same idea as I. There are few Jeeps, and nearly no Liberty's. And NONE of them have the light bar, or are the renegade model...still looking!

if you put lights on the roof basket, make sure they're a flood light, not a spot driving light. Mine are pretty much useless because they are a driving light, meant to be mounted low on the bumper. They don't add much off road.

The liberty bar will work on one. I have installed these onany SUVs and trucks. Ford ranger my dodge nitro a friends jeep grand Cherokee a fj cruiser and I've installed one on a patriot. It was much cheaper and more simple for me to buy just the cover and make a bracket for the lights and the cover to pop onto. Total investment for me with lights and I put hid's in mine was $175 usd. You do have to have some fabrication skills and if u can't work with metal then save u money to just buy a liberty bar from eBay used. There's two on there right now.

This is NOT photoshopped like the first pic on this post this is 100% just installed. IMO liberty bar looks cleanest of them all as far as factory look. I'll try to get my buddy to swing by with his patriot for pics
